Spitzer wants N.Y. to tax illegal drugs

If you can't beat it, tax it.

That seems to be the axiom in New York these days, where Democratic Gov. Eliot Spitzer, struggling to close a $4.4 billion budget gap, has proposed making drug dealers pay tax on their stashes of illegal drugs. The new tax would apply to cocaine, heroin and marijuana, and could be paid with pre-bought "tax stamps" affixed to the bags of dope.

Some critics in the legislature are asking what the governor has been smoking.

"I guess if it moves, he'll tax it," said Republican state Sen. Martin Golden, who dubbed the proposal "the crack tax." Some opponents said that because cocaine and marijuana would be subject to the new levies, it should

This would mean that NY’s Chief Executive is tacitly admitting to NOT enforcing or executing the laws, a prima facie case for dereliction of duty.

Does he plan on doing the same to prostitutes?

Wasn’t that tried already in Arizona or Nevada 20-30 years back? I seem to remember some people actually went out and bought the stamps for novelty sake — and then ended up having their houses searched a day or so later.

Tax his land,
Tax his wage,
Tax his bed in which he lays.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes is the rule.

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his ties,
Tax his shirts,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he tries to think

Tax his booze,
Tax his beers,
If he cries,
Tax his tears.

Tax his bills,
Tax his gas,
Tax his notes,
Tax his cash.

Tax him good and let him know
That after taxes, he has no dough.

If he hollers,
Tax him more,
Tax him until he’s good and sore.

Tax his coffin, Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in which he lays.

Put these words upon his tomb,
“Taxes drove me to my doom!”

And when he’s gone,
We won’t relax,
We’ll still be after the inheritance TAX !!

This mental case may be the Worst Governor in NY History.

Oh, and he really is profoundly mentally unhinged. Long track record of recurrent bizarre/threatening/grandiose misbehavior. Doesn't believe much is this "democracy" notion, either.

Tennessee has been doing this for years. They clean up at the Bonaroo festival, not to mention the worth of major dealers. (I’m not saying I advocate it, as it seems somewhat dubious to me to tax something illegal in the first place, but it hasn’t been shot down I don’t think)

He may have a method behind his madness. You cannot tax something that is illegal. Therefore, pass the tax first then make it legal.
Could this be his back door to legalization of drugs in NY state?
Personally, I think this guy has an ego maniacal problem. His next step is to the boobie hatch.
First it was giving Drivers Licenses to illegal aliens. Now this.
I have a question:
Has a state ever impeached it’s Governor, or must a referendum be held to oust him?

Spitzer wants N.Y. to tax illegal drugs

Spitzer proves he's a good liberal, there's nothing that a good stiff tax can't make better.

Well, if it drives drug dealers out of NY like all the rest of the taxes have driven businesses out, maybe it’s not such a bad thing.

Then you could have the IRS or some such organization go after them instead of the cops.

Spitzer-the same idiot who wants a ban on .50 caliber percussion muzzleloaders because they are ‘anti aircraft’ guns.

I heard about this over a month ago. Apparently his thinking is like Al Capone. If they get arrested for drugs they can also get arrested for tax evasion. I think Spitzer is smokin somethin.
