Democrats: Michelle Obama's revelation that she was never proud of America until her husband's electoral success provoked wide reaction. But just as noteworthy was the nonreaction it got from Hillary Clinton.
Such was the grand plan to get another liberal "New Yorker" — another FDR, as it were — into the White House. But with 10 straight defeats now, ironically to a fellow Chicagoan, Hillary's in big trouble.
On Monday, however, came the first real gaffe committed by the camp of that rival, Barack Obama. Would-be first lady Michelle Obama, speaking at a campaign rally in Wisconsin, told the crowd: "Let me tell you something. For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country."
Her husband's far-from-convincing response was that she wasn't really talking about the country; she really meant American politics was making her proud for the first time.
