Sizzle! You don't sell the steak, you sell the sizzle.

The title sells the book as much as anything else. Confessions of a Male Nurse is not a false statement plus it's only a small part of the cover; the small type tells you what it's about.

For example, McCain could write a booke titled Confessions of an Old Dude Running

Congrats on the decision.

I think Angel of Bedlam would work as a title for a work of nonfiction as well.

There are a number of published writers on FR already..

Best would be to solicit them for advice...Why reinvent the wheel.

I gotta million of them. Good luck. Keep us in the loop. I absolute love your ER posted stories.

Seems to me you already have enough episodes to string together to make the book. You just need some editing and some transpositions.

Did you include “Belly stud ‘almost killed teen’”?

Strictly speaking, it’s not part of the set because it is a post to another thread, not a thread in its own right...

If you plan a book of separate stories, the organization would be kind of easy. You would write the stories one at a time, each forming a single chapter of the book. Then you would write a brief introduction explaining your work as an ER nurse and how it enabled you to see these fascinating events that form the stories, plus your reasons for writing the book and getting the stories out to the public.

To reduce the possibilities of legal problems, you might want to merely change the names of the people involved (or some of them), and explain that technique in your introduction.

Good luck.

Don’t get too hung up on the title. Most of the time, publishers will decide the title, and authors will usually defer to the publisher’s decision because of the publisher’s marketing experience.

Just took a quick look-see at a couple of posts. (I was gone this afternoon and won’t be able to read this whole thread until later.)

Short story collections are one of the most difficult books to sell. Publishers only occasionally want them from known authors.

On the other hand, you could write a memoir and string the “stories” (with the names changed to protect the guilty and innocent) together with appropriate transitions between them. So, if it’d be easier for you to write them as stories, do that so you get the book done — and then do the transitions when you do your edits. That’d basically be treating each story as a scene in your book.

(Because I haven’t read the entire thread, keep in mind that this “advice” is based on partial info. IOW, no flames if what I’ve said is redundant.) ;)

Wow - I hadn’t thought about Nolan’s books in years. I must have read Making of a Surgeon 20 times when I was a teenager ... before my chemistry grades kept me from my first chosen profession as a doctor! :-)

Go fiction.

Less chance of lawyers coming after you; and for an additional layer of protection, maybe make it a set of "reminisces" from several fictional nurses.

Either way, I'll buy a copy...you are this generation's James Herriot.

Cheers!

The reply was authored by 60Gunner, the story in that individual post could have been a thread all by itself.

You can miss a lot of good stuff when you are just looking at the lead threads.

I love your work - just run the concept past an attorney that understands publishing and confidentiality issues. If you jeopardize your license, you can’t get new stories. You are valuable for the profession as well as fun. Thanks for all the work you do.

Sizzle! You don't sell the steak, you sell the sizzle.

There's a line between sizzle and flaming. You might as well suggest "Bath House Confessions of a Richards Simmons Groupie!"

"...not that there's anything wrong with that..."
