Life of the party: Obama's supporters rock Reunion Arena
12:00 AM CST on Thursday, February 21, 2008
Sha-zam! Barack Obama puts on a really great shindig this crowd was juiced!
It wasn't just the hollering section of sign wavers clustered down front for the cameras, but up in the rafters where I was, in the lumpy old Reunion Arena folding seats.

They wanted to be in the same room with the man and to echo his themes hope, change, unity, sticking it to the fat cats generalities that his opponents have criticized as lacking "substance." The people in this crowd might with good reason reasonably ask: Well, what has substance done for me so far?

"It's electric! Can't you feel it?" said one man, who told me he was headed for work at the IRS after the rally. I could feel it, because it's a fundamental element of crowd psychology that the expectation of "electricity" creates it.
They loved it Ron Kirk delivering a punch line about "a skinny kid with big ears whose name rhymes with 'Yo mama' " and Emmitt Smith, as excited and electrified as anybody else there.
The main event, of course, was the speech, which I have heard before. I just sat back and felt the key phrases wash over the crowd: "new," "change," "Kennedy," "Scooter Libby justice," "wiretaps," "Katrina."
The lady sitting next to me dipped into a bucket of popcorn and murmured the phrases back: " 'If you believe.' 'The time is now.' That's right," she agreed.
She was a little disappointed, in fact, when the rally ended: "Why didn't he do, 'Yes we can'?" she asked a friend, as if a concert had ended, the biggest hit not performed.

Where is the barf alert?
I heard he wants change.
I was there. I think I was the only person there who wasn’t impressed.
I hope you were able to corrupt some earnest Democrats with clear thinking while you were there.
The shouts of “BLOW YOUR NOSE FOR US OBAMA!” were deafening!
so silly.
