McCain and the Pubbie establishment knew that he didn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning the nomination unless there were plenty of open primaries so independents could crossover for him. The party insiders know, even if McCain doesn’t, that those same independents will vote for Obama in the general. That’s why the all the angst at conservatives who aren’t willing to jump on the McCain bandwagon. The party thought we conservatives would be more malleable and fearful than we are proving to be.
