Except shooting a weapon that sounds like the enemy’s weapon is a great way to get friendly fire coming your way.

Has McCain said anything about this today?

I only have 16 years of experience, but I’ve never seen a platoon split up and sent to different theaters.

Somebody needs to call this POS out.

On the military channel last week the host of “Weaponology” had talked about how the US Army/Marines had a new weapon being issued to them that is able to fire the same round as the AK-47. One of the reasons he stated was that if the bad guys heard anything else being popped off they would know who was coming. Cool show.

You know, I’ve heard from an Army captain who was the head of a rifle platoon — supposed to have 39 men in a rifle platoon. Ended up being sent to Afghanistan with 24 because 15 of those soldiers had been sent to Iraq.

Platoon - 16 to 44 soldiers. A platoon is led by a lieutenant with an NCO as second in command, and consists of two to four squads or sections.

Unit sizes are not specific across the board. Depending on the unit type, (supply, infantry, aviation, etc...) requirements change for personnel and equipment.

And as a consequence, they didn’t have enough ammunition, they didn’t have enough Humvees. They were actually capturing Taliban weapons, because it was easier to get Taliban weapons than it was for them to get properly equipped by our current commander in chief.

The first part is utterly ridiculous. The amount of supplies would also be fluid, depending on the mission and need at that particular time. I suppose their "extra ammo" was in the Hummers sent to Iraq? Even if all the personnel were together, their total ammo load would be higher, but spread among more people. Therefore, they would likely be "short", but nobody ever has as much as they'd like.

He's a disaster in the making as CIC. Nothing he's said or done shows me he has the most basic understanding of military affairs. I'm not even confident he'd admit to himself he would need very good and competent advisors.

"First of all, and correct me if I’m wrong on this Chris (seeing as how I’ve been out for 18 years) but the military..."

Did I read that correctly? Did Obama serve in the military?

I’ve always thought he was a little light in the loafers. Can you imagine this empty suit as our commander in chief? This whole election cycle is one dirty joke, but nobody’s laughing at the punch line.

One other thing, you know why he made a gaffe such as this? Probably because not only himself, but no one in his inner circle of advisors have any military experience whether in the military or in relation to policy matters. If there had been, this advisor would have never let him make some of the stupid statements in here.

I watched the debate last night.

To me, it sounded as if his real beef was with our side taking weapons away from the Taliban.

Anybody else here see something weird about that?
