Build the wall because the wall will do the job when the government won’t.

Why can’t we have both kinds of fence?

Concrete and concertina wire don't cost enough and don't require much maintenance.

So there wouldn't be lucrative contracts for millions of dollars worth of electronic gee-gaws, installation and maintenance contracts, ongoing hardware and software upgrades, contracts for employee training, onsite consultants, and periodic equipment operation and performance evaluations.

What good is a multi-multi-million dollar government project if politicians and bureaucrats can't push huge contracts for out dated equipment to their favorite lobbyists and/or financial contributors?

.

This directed energy technology is still away from ready for deployment but there are other things coming on the scene that can be potent and effective interdiction methods.

Wow! I may have to un-retire. Anyone know the wholesale cost of 499 lbs. of cocaine?

Ok, then build virtual fences around prisons. How about around Joliet State Prison in IL, where many of the worst offenders are placed. All it needs is a virtual fence around it, you know, to keep all those virtual prisoners inside. I’m sure you all will trust in its effectiveness.

Or, in the alternative, go tell the Israeli’s to swap their actual fence with this knew high tech virtual fence. I’m virtually sure they’ll run right out and do it. Bush/Chertoff are a couple of virtual idiots, except for they aren’t. What they are doing is a virtual scam, with intent. And meanwhile, Bush who won’t add money into the budget for adequate border control agents, removes the national guard from the border, and won’t finance a full fence, but will trot over to Africa to spend our taxpayer money by throwing it down a rathole in the name of his “legacy”.

Grrr...our tax dollars being wasted at an even faster rate than before!
:::::::
Understatement. We are wasting over $150 BILLION PER YEAR on supporting illegals NOW! How much would a fence cost? -— a REAL FENCE THAT IS. Much less. The vote-grubbing, power-mad and utopian pols of Washington know this -— they want them here. At our expense. It suits THEIR agenda.

Absent the electronic elements of a virtual fence a stationar wall is of no value. A fence can and easily will be climbed or dug out underneath.

There must be sensors to alert a broach or passage. The alert is all that’s necessary. The stationary fence does nothing.
