Obama Defends 'Liberal' Label
MSNBC ^ | February 23, 2008 | Aswini Anburajan

Posted on 02/23/2008 12:14:52 PM PST by Pikamax

From NBC/NJ’s Aswini Anburajan AUSTIN, Texas -- In the shadow of the state capitol that provided the United States with one of the most conservative presidents in recent history, Obama last night railed against the charge that being "liberal" was a bad thing.

"Oh, he's liberal,” he said. “He's liberal. Let me tell you something. There's nothing liberal about wanting to reduce money in politics that is common sense. There's nothing liberal about wanting to make sure [our soldiers] are treated properly when they come home.”

Continuing on his riff: "There's nothing liberal about wanting to make sure that everybody has healthcare, but we are spending more on healthcare in this country than any other advanced country. We got more uninsured. There's nothing liberal about saying that doesn't make sense, and we should so something smarter with our health care system. Don't let them run that okie doke on you!"

In the shadow of the state capitol that provided the United States with one of the most conservative presidents in recent history,

I give up. Who would that be?

"Who is this “most conservative President” they refer to?"

Goldwater?

The headline doesn’t match the text. Obama is saying all of these things he wants AREN’T ‘liberal’.

It is strange, but the first line of the story says that he was objecting to the liberal label being a bad thing. So the error looks like Obama's more than the headline writer's.

“There’s nothing liberal about wanting to make sure that everybody has healthcare”

Ah, but there’s something very liberal about wanting the government to provide it.

In the shadow of the state capitol that provided the United States with one of the most phony conservative presidents in recent history

That had to be fixed. If Bush is a conservative I hate to think what they think of the erst of us.

After reading the article and Obama’s own comments, it’s evident that his own worst enemy is himself. Keep him talking.

Good move in Austin as liberalism is a relegion there...bad news for the General as his record will show why liberalism is so generally disliked. Trying to get old line linerals who prefer that tag over Progressive.

I think he’s saying calling him liberal is the conservative way to argue against common sense.
So he sees the conservative movement as needing to use labels in order to take support away from common sense solutions because conservatives have no solutions just attacks.

Keep it up Obama and keep giving the GOP ammunition for your destruction. This is the politics of self-immolation at its best.

Don’t forget that

There’s something liberal in wanting to disarm citizens and take away their guns.

The “Pajamaheddin” emerged as an alternate news force in 2004. They and others who shine the light of truth on the Obamarama machine are liberty’s only hope, as Mr. Change is getting total, unequivocal, and enthusiastic support from the mainstream drive-by media.

Here’s some highlights of his voting record in the Illinois Senate.

I suppose he’ll tell us there’s nothing liberal here.

This is totally incoherent and an embarrassment to honest confident liberals (if there are any). Obama Hussein is not embracing liberalism to say “damn it, I’m a true liberal and I’m proud of it” — he is trying to pretend that he takes nothing but “common sense” positions that are not unique at all to liberalism. So, he’s just so full of common sense that he’s not a liberal at all, just Mr. All-American Common Sense.

There’s no reason to regard him as the most consistent leftist in the US Senate, even more so than the one openly avowed socialist Bernie Sanders.... He’s just Mr. Common Sense. Yeah, just as Michael Dukakis was all about “competence not ideology” when he ran like a whiny little girl from the ‘liberal’ word.....

Yeah, right, Obama Hussein chose to start his first campaign for the IL state senate in the home of the Weatherman terrorists because he’s Mr. Common Sense..... and he votes 100% on the left-liberal ACLU/ADA line because he’s just the mainstream of common sense..... and he and his shrew wife don’t hate America, they just long for Americans to embrace their unique version of ..... common sense. Sure, this crapola means pigs will fly in the general election in November.
