He argues that this shows he can redraw the Electoral College map in the general election and force Republicans onto the defensive in normally safe areas of the country. Obama doesn't need the red states. All he has to do is take the blue states that Kerry took and pick off red states that have been trending blue lately like Ohio and Utah and Colorado and maybe Florida, not impossible.
