He said the glaciers, particularly the Pine Island Glacier, has surged sharply in speed towards the ocean-- and it's not because of global warming.

Wait a minute.

I thought the receding glaciers were causing the oceans to rise.

“Scott’s research revealed evidence of a volcano that erupted through the ice about 2,000 years ago. The whole region could be volcanically active and could possibly be releasing geothermal heat to melt the base of the ice and help its slide towards the sea.”

NO NO NO NO

Where’s the guilt!

Where’s blame America!

This is not acceptable!

That is far greater than the accelerations they were getting excited about in the 1990s," said team member Julian Scott.

Wasn't that when we were warned about global cooling and told glaciers would overtake the earth?

Well, yes, it is - volcanic activity.

But worshippers at the altar of Global Hot Air*
ignore that, since it isn’t man-made.

Team member Julian Scott theorized that global warming is not the cause.

Another Scott meeting his end in Antarctica.

I am typing this reply using a qwerty type keyboard - and it's not because of global warming.

British explorers in West Antarctica reported glacier movement in the region has picked up by a startling seven percent this season, a development, they said, which could lead to a significant rise in sea level.

Note to self: check in on January 2009, and see how many news stories there are about the sharply rising oceans in 2008. I predict no oceans flood any cities on the US coast. Tsunamis don't count, they are caused by geological movements.

Proving that they need another grant. See....We did find something...we are actually doing something. Can you imagine what would happen to their grants if they said the truth? Ain’t shit happening here.

>>Antarctic Glaciers Going To Sea At Faster Rate<<

Well then we ought to use American ingenuity to put masts on them and sail the damn things.

A while back (few months) I read somewhere, a C02 something or other website, an article that was refuting the idea that GW was causing Antarctica to lose its ice. Their conclusion after satellite radar surveys etc. was that Antarctica was experiencing a net gain of 29 Giga tons of ice per year. This would seem to be in line with that. If you pile up more and more ice on top, it is going to slide down to the sea at an ever faster rate...

That's a big thick glacier. I wonder if it contains millions of cubic miles of liquefied water behind, and under, the ice?

There's a newer theory bout the Grand Canyon gorge that postulates a similarly large glacier in Canada burst like a water balloon during its recession.....blasting the entire central area of North America with a land-tsunami....and the canyon it a vestige of the flood. Other evidence includes hills characteristic of water flow across the plains...like the ripples of sand on a wave-washed beach...on steroids.

If that's a similar case in Antarctica, the planet could be in for a major soaking wave sometime soon, as the ice liquefies in the interior, and the ice-dam breaks.

Swoosh! [Bush's fault.]

The problem is the global warming people will see the sea level rise and hit us with it...

Actually, with more ice than ever and a thicker than ever ice cap, you expect them to speed up because there is more weight pressing down. But to imagine this is going to move sea levels is utter nonsense. A millimeter, nobody will care. Go down to the sea shore and try to measure the water height with millimeter accuracy. (lol)

Wait, if Antartica is mainly ice, then much of it is just floating. Whether it melts or not is of no consequence. Drop an ice cube into your favorite drink and it has the same displacement as if it melts.
