In perfect health, the baby doctors said would be born deaf and blind ...and live only a few hours
Daily Mail (UK) ^ | Monday, February 25, 2008 | JO MACFARLANE

Posted on 02/25/2008 5:33:34 AM PST by Sopater

A couple who were advised to abort their baby when doctors said he had a rare brain disorder have spoken of their joy after their "miracle son" was born in perfect health.

Little Brandon Kramer was diagnosed with rhomboencephalosynapsis – a condition so rare it affects fewer than one in a million people worldwide – while he was still in the womb.

Doctors warned his mother and father that Brandon would be born deaf and blind and would probably survive only for a couple of hours.

It is believed to be the first time in Britain that the condition has been diagnosed during pregnancy – and Becky Weatherall and her partner Kriss Kramer were offered a termination up to just weeks before the birth.

But the couple defied doctors' advice and their son was born healthy on October 1 last year.

Now Brandon is teething and attempting to talk, and Kriss, 24, from Pembroke Dock, South Wales, said: "The fact that he is here now, alive and kicking, truly is a miracle."

Not really a miracle...it's pretty obvious the doctors screwed up the diagnosis.

Yes, but it’s no miracle for doctors to be wrong, especially under socialized medicine.

Accurate enough though, to end a baby's life.

That much of a “shadow of a doubt” with DNA evidence would prevent a murderer from being executed, but this was only a “fetus” (not a human)

Has anyone noticed how whenever you see some nightmare thread about a death during childbirth (injected with Mr. Clean instead of epidural, epidural injected in arm instead of back, etc) or abortion-related nightmare, it is always in the UK, with the wonderful NHS?

Yes. Maybe they will think about getting married now,
so their baby will grow up thinking ‘my dad loved my mother enough to marry her’.

Wouldn’t that be nice?

Well how can we expect people in countries that are taught that it is ok to kill your baby to see the necessity of marriage?

I'm trying to imagine what their pregnancy was like. What should be a joyous time in your life, preparing for your baby's arrival, picking out names, decorating nurseries, seeing an adorable little tiny infant outfit that you can't resist--and all that stuff, must have been a nightmare for these two young parents.

How many babies have been murdered because some know it all doctor misdiagnosed something?

We've come way too far down a very bad road, I'm afraid.

God is watching--and taking names!

This is absolutely the case - those who are “too expensive” will not be treated.

But, you put these in front of those who support “free” healthcare, and they’ll tell you you’re paranoid.

BTW - economics don’t/shouldn’t affect the healthcare system, just like gravity doesn’t/shouldn’t affect bowling balls.

“Just two weeks before he was born scans showed that his head was so swollen it was off the scale for normal babies but when he had an MRI scan on Christmas Eve it was confirmed he was completely healthy.” If this child had been in the U.S., the MRI would have cleared everything up long before the doctors suggested abortion. The parents are tremendously courageous BUT don’t forget this is what happens with National Health Care.

I do not know how to find it, but about two weeks ago I posted a story from Great Britain; the story stated that physicians and lawmakers in the UK were considering denying, obese people, smokers and the elderly from the state healthcare roles in order to save money. That is only the smallest step from my previous statement.

I’m sure someone added some keywords to those articles that you’re referring to.

I remember reading those on FR. Anyone have the keyword to look for?

Also one about the former RAF airman who couldn’t get shots (”jabs”) to stop his macular degeneration until he was blind in at least one eye.

I’d suggest compiling all these articles as evidence of what Universal Healthcare will do,

but I know those who support it are so enamored with the idea of a free lunch that they won’t be swayed.

Your point? Though unmarried, these two are far more legitimately parents in every sense of the word than the legions of married couples who legally rid themselves of their children—and I dare say, more legitimately parents in the eyes of God as well. The same UK body of law that bestows “legitimacy” by marriage license also bestows legitimacy on the taking of pre-born life.

If the fascists can get away with it, they'll do just that very thing.

My wife asked me if we should volunteer for pre-natal screening, and I asked her in return "Why? What would we do differently?"

Quite frankly, there's a very real chance that the insertion of the needle for the test itself could cause damage to the baby.

I’ve a friend that has an autistic boy, she loves the boy as much as any parent loves a child. The child deserves the chance to live a life; it disgusts me when one assumes the can evaluate the worth of one human life over another because of their mental state or physical abilities. I am familiar with many “retarded people”, my daughter is working her way through college caring for people that can not care for themselves, they are as happy or happier than most normal people. I can assure anyone that if they (retarded people) understood the question and were asked if they think their moms should have aborted them, they would be insulted by the question.

I was born disabled and have warned many people including my brother (who believes anything someone tells him, thus he is for Obama) that once we get state run healthcare the sick and handicapped will be denied even palitaive treatment.

My father recently died of cirrhosis and was on pure medicaid with no private insurance and if it wasn't for us checkin in on him 6-8 hours per day, he would have died much sooner.

I am reminded of Rick Santorum and his wife, who allowed their doomed son to be born, never considered abortion and made the best of a bad situation, honoring God and loving their boy as they went. Like this couple, they took the brave, life-affirming approach. Unlike them, the doctor was not wrong, and the Santorums sat with their son as he died after an induced childbirth.

And the liberal media (most notably Terri Gross of NPR's "Fresh Air") called it a "late-term abortion" and grilled him about his dead son the way they grilled Dubya about Katrina response. I heard Gross do it on live radio, and it was all I could do to resist hating her guts.
