Tehran, 25 Feb. (AKI) - The wife of assassinated militant leader Imad Mughniyeh, claims that Syria was behind the killing of her husband, reported Alborz, a pro-Iranian government source.
Her husband, Imad Mughniyeh was killed in a bombing in Damascus on 13 February and Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, Syria and Iran have blamed Israel for assassinating him.
Mughniyeh was the intelligence chief of Hezbollah's secretive military wing, the Islamic Resistance.
"The Syrian traitors assisted in my husband's murder," said the wife.
Saudi daily 'Okaz' has also entertained the idea of Syria being behind the murder of Mughniyeh. It hypothesises a power struggle within Lebanese Hezbollah between those who want an alliance with Iran, and those who want to steer away from it, enjoying the support of the Syrian security forces.
"The Syrian refusal to let Iranian investigators do their job is proof of Damascus' complicity in my husband's murder," said Mughniyeh's widow.
Mughniyeh's widow, of Iranian origin, wanted to leave Syria after the assassination of her husband, and wanted to go to Lebanon or Iran, but the Iranian embassy reportedly decided to take her to Tehran away from the reach of the Lebanese media.
Mughniyeh, also called "the Shia bin-Laden", was considered the mastermind of several hijackings, suicide bombings and other terrorist acts and was on the FBI's top ten most wanted list with a 5 million dollar reward for his capture.
He was wanted by Israel and the US due to his alleged role in the bombings of the Israeli embassy and the Jewish community centre in Buenos Aires in 1992 and 1994, as well as a wave of abductions of westerners in Lebanon in the 1980s.
Mughniyeh was widely believed to be responsible for a wave of bombings, assassinations and kidnappings in Lebanon during the 1980s.
this should certainly make things interesting
Ping.
I still think it was Hezbollah and/or Iran.
The reacted to quickly, to guiltily, I suspect.
Could be political, could be the victim cheated somebody. Who knows...many possibilities.
Love it!
Gee, does this mean we’ll see Iran at Syria’s throat soon?
I hope, I hope, I hope.....
Popcorn, anyone?
Yeah, right.
Evil fighting Evil...
simple..since hezbollah is an iranian surrogate, this was done by the hezzies as a pretext to start a war with israel and can be found in the middle east 101 textbook.
Hard to know whom to root for.
Har.... This is the icing on the cake.
Will the Hezzies rocket the communities in Syria?
Root for long, massive, bloody internecine war.
Seems to me if there was a take out ordered it would have been done at the meeting and the whole lot of them dispatched. How could any outsider get that close to this guy’s car?
Very,...Very interesting....
It wasn’t his car that blew up
But they knew where he would be walking..
Certainly seems an “inside job”...but which inside?
Pingaroo!
It would be nice to see a civil or internal war between them........ yah that would be nice.
