Wow. Thank you very much, Academy. Here's to all doc filmmakers. And, truth is, I think my dear wife Anne was kind of hoping I'd make a romantic comedy, but honestly, after Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib, extraordinary rendition that simply wasn't possible.
This is dedicated to two people who are no longer with us, Dilawar, the young Afghan taxi driver, and my father, a navy interrogator who urged me to make this film because of his fury about what was being done to the rule of law.
Let's hope we can turn this country around, move away from the dark side and back to the light. Thank you very much.
Mr. Gibney...Which is worse? Terrorists beheading US civilians or US soldiers "humiliating" some prisoners? I am suspecting that what US military did outraged him more...Besides, who in Hollywood would be eager to make a documentary about evils of Islamic terrorists?
About Mr. Gibney's father...Rule of law? Sounding like some Democrats who view the struggle against Islamic terrorists as merely "law enforcement actions"...Should we not treat the struggle as a "war"? I don't think FDR treated the struggle against Nazis as some "law enforcement action".
I heard radio host Jerry Doyle discuss Mr. Gibney's father, who interrogated Japanese prisoners during WW2...Doyle wondered how Mr. Gibney's father went about interrogating Japanese...A good question...I think most Japanese soldiers preferred to kill themselves rather than to be taken as prisoners...How cooperative could Japanese soldiers have been?
It would be nice if some reporter asked Mr. Obama about "moving away from the dark side"...
I am sure Osama Bin Laden would find Mr. Gibney's speech useful in recruiting more terrorists...
This is what is meant by "giving aid and comfort to the enemy?"
Michael Moore's speech a few years ago at the Oscars...OK, I could just dismiss that as an anti-Bush diatribe...But, I think Gibney's speech is a diatribe against US...
I want to waterboard this puke... and his wife... and his father!
