Gun-toting toll collectors have been stripped of their sidearms by Mass Pike brass after secretly carrying them for decades without formal training, the Herald has learned.
I didnt want to have a wild west show out there, said Massachusetts Turnpike Authority Executive Director Alan LeBovidge, who ordered the practice stopped. I could find nothing to show that the employees had state police training that would make them qualified to carry guns.

My thoughts exactly - now that it’s a “gun-free” zone, how long before “a wild west show” happens?

An employer, public or private, has to think twice before explicitly allowing their employees to carry a gun for work purposes, that goes for municipal police and private security (or any company that asks an employ to serve as security). The employer can be held liable for the employee’s use of that weapon. A great way to give an employer some legal protection is to require some type of formal training. Police do it, security guards do it, everyone in a large organization (big enough to worry about liability) will ask an employee to undergo so kind of training before having them carry a gun (which is different that an employer just letting an employee bring a privately owned and licensed gun to work, but the employee isn’t expected to use it on the job).

Morons. All you've done is made your employees prime targets for criminals.
I don't want any of those guys to get hurt on their job, but if they do after this, I hope they sue the nuts off those clowns for turning them into soft targets.

The sad thing is, the Wild West was probably safer on a per-capita basis than was Boston or even New York City at the same time in history.

I could find nothing to show that the employees had state police training that would make them qualified to carry guns. Because after all, only those trained by the police are qualified to carry a weapon according to the 2nd Amendment.

A cub reporter named Sam Clements wrote about his experiences in Aurura, Colorado. Aurora was a Mining Town, and was described by Clements as composed of miners, merchants, barkeepers and prostitutes - not a stable population, to say the least.
Yet, Clements noted that Aurora had 1/4 of the murders of a comparable size city back East.
He attributed this to the fact that in Aurora, all were armed.

That would be Republican Executive Director Alan LeBovidge brought in to clean up the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority.
I believe he deserves a soak zone warning

I lived in NH for a year and visited a limited amount of the historical sites in the NH and Boston area (Bunker Hill and old town Boston and Old Ironsides). It’s amazing and sad how far those areas have moved away from the ideals that originally helped forge this nation. The folks who died to create this nation must certainly be spinning in their collective graves.
