DETROIT (AP) -- The Michigan Supreme Court has declined to hear an appeal from Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to keep documents from a secret settlement of a whistle-blowers' lawsuit from being made public.

The documents are related to embarrassing and sexually explicit text messages between Kilpatrick and his former top aide, but they do not include the actual messages.

The city filed its motion to take a state Appeals Court ruling to the higher court Feb. 15.

The Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday morning.

It concurred with an Appeals Court panel that said a circuit court judge was correct in ordering the documents to be unsealed. They are part of an $8.4 million settlement the city made with former officers in last summer's whistle-blowers' suit.

another free press artcile... A Wayne County judge today released the last remaining sealed documents from the text message scandal, showing how Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his city-paid lawyers schemed to conceal incriminating text messages that could result in perjury charges against him and Christine Beatty. The documents, released after a two-month legal battle between the Free Press and the Kilpatrick administration, show the mayor and his lawyers settled two police whistle-blower lawsuits on Oct. 17 for $8.4 million, but ripped up the deal after the Free Press asked for a copy. Then, Kilpatrick and his lawyers wrote two new agreements containing identical terms, according to Free Press lawyer Herschel Fink. He said an agreement for public consumption told how much the cops would get in the settlement, and the other, a secret side deal, hid text messages that showed the mayor and Beatty lied -- Kilpatrick's then-chief of staff -- at last summer's whistleblower trial. ... The text messages showed Kilpatrick and Beatty gave false testimony at the whistle-blower trial last August when they denied having an extramarital affairm, they also provided misleading testimony about firing one of the cops. The cops said they were forced out of their jobs after raising questions about the conduct of the mayor's security team -- questions that could have revealed that Kilpatrick and Beatty, his then-chief of staff, were having an affair.

Republicans resign (or are “forced” to) upon the appearance of impropriety

Dems resign only after conviction, appeal, appeal, appeal or just wait until their term expires.

IF you are familiar with Detroit politics then you would know that former mayor Coleman Young was sitting in this same exact position a number of times and still retired when he chose to.

A black mayor in Detroit could have to be caught on video doing it and the headlines would read "Racist Entrapment by White Officials, Mayor Calls For Support Donations to Quash Racist Investigation."

Will Kim Worthy prosecute?

She will lose all credibility if she does not, but in Detroit, who needs credibility?

Your right, in Detroit things aren't cut and dry like they are in other places. (I was going to say black and white, but that just didn't sound right)

I think that with the entire State watching this, hell the entire country, she will have to do it now or will be run out of office.
