Sen. Daniel Inouye has apologized for suggesting that Sen. Barack Obama's private high school in Hawaii was elitist.
Inouye said before his state's Feb. 19 Democratic caucuses that voters know Obama was born in Hawaii and graduated from one of its high schools, "but he went to Punahou, and that was not a school for the impoverished."
"To suggest that Punahou maybe set his life plan in place, I find it very interesting," Inouye said
Punahou, located in Honolulu, is one of the island's most prestigious private schools.
Inouye, 83, graduated from McKinley High School, a public school near Punahou's lush campus.

My high school chemistry teacher used to teach at Punahou. He made the kids work, so they apparently got him fired. He was always grumbling about “those punks at Punahou” and the time frame is about right, so maybe Obama was one of his students? ;)
It probably undermined Obama’s claim to “blackness” since his school “wasn’t for the impoverished”. The public absence of his white maternal grandparents who paid for all that is also a major “race play” on his part.

I remember someone I knew who lived in Hawaii (during the late 50’s or early 60’s) telling me about their school system that, at that time, segregated kids to various schools based on their performance and how one kid brightly boasted, “I’m the smartest kid in the dumbest school!”
If McCain can be convinced that Obama is a conservative, he'll kick his butt.
