NEW YORK (February 25, 2008) The nations second Filipino-American to reach the rank of flag officer, U.S. Army Major General Antonio M. Taguba, this week announced his Endorsement of U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton for President.
Senator Clintons unequivocal opposition to the use of torture under any circumstances, and her willingness to take a stand for what she believes in is exactly the sort of courage and moral strength that we need in our leaders, General Taguba said. I know that, as President, Senator Clinton will hold America to the high moral standards that have made us a leader among nations.
Gen. Taguba served his country with distinction for 34 years, until retiring in 2007. The son of a Filipino-American who survived the 1942 Bataan Death March, General Taguba led the Armys investigation into prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib in 2004. His findings came to be known as the Taguba Report.

General says Abu Ghraib scandal will resonate for years to come
Major Gen. Antonio Tagubas shattering report on the Abu Ghraib scandal was released in March 2004, effectively ending Americas claim to the moral high ground in its war on terror and making him, by all accounts, persona non grata at Donald Rumsfelds Pentagon. Notwithstanding his singular perspective from the eye of what became an international hurricane, Taguba waited until June 2007 nearly six months from the day he retired, under pressure, after 34 years of active duty in the U.S. Army before giving his first interview, to New Yorker investigative reporter Seymour Hersh.

Ugh. It only takes a generation to forget the lessons of the past. My great uncle (the younger brother of my maternal grandmother) wasn't as lucky as Taguba's father was (he died on the Bataan Death March).
This first-generation American of Filipino descent (on my father's side) won't vote ever vote for a Clinton, let alone endorse one.
