If there is any value to the phone/voice numbers then they will be stolen from or sold by the winos almost immediately.

EVERY homeless person living in San Francisco will be given a phone number and voicemail to help them get back on their feet

Outstanding! With this new voicemail service, they should be off the dole in six months, seven tops.

I don’t know if this will work, but I admire and respect Google for at least *trying* to help the unfortunate. Hey, they’re using their assets to help people without any government subsidy. Conservatives should be for that.

Too bad there’s no pay phones left for them to use to check their mail.

I’m totally missing something here. How do you use a phone number and voicemail without a phone?

A lovely idea, but it won’t do much good.

I guess the homeless people will access it from their laptops and cellphones? Silly.

Like others here, I´m wondering what good voice mail is without a phone.

I believe that in a totally free market, this would be the norm, and the private sector would be much more effective in helping the needy.

Someone once pointed out that when the government tries to take care of the poor, people do less because they believe it is the government´s job.

Can they search for a job on Google?

...or is that not quite what they're looking for?
