I recall Reagan canceling at least one meeting with Gorbachev. Reagan didn’t kiss communists’ butts like Obama is planning to with Castro.

Saddam was a useful tool against our common enemy the Iranians. Also, Rumsfeld was at a lower level than the president.

Nixon met with China to peel the Chicoms away from the USSR.

What did Reagan get from meeting with Gorby besides getting embarrassed?

W doesn’t suck up to murderous dictators in order to play Realpolitik. Thanks to W, those days are over. He has restored the honor of our foreign policy.

Why would you want to enhance the credibility of the Cuban regime and crush the hopes and dreams of the oppressed Cuban people?

What kind of DUmmie are you?

You just made my point by asking this question. The outcome of the meeting was a big fat zero. The outcome of meeting with him was great if you have nothing better to do.

So, then you're also saying that the outcome of Nixon's meetings with Mao and Reagan's meetings with Mikail were also equally pointless?

Instead, you think isolationism is the answer?

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

How is it wrong?

Are you saying that Reagan was wrong to meet with Gorbachev?

Yep. Back when we were playing Iraq against Iran, if I’m not mistaken.

Nice try, but I think it was under R.Reagan that he went out to Iraq. At that time we were against Iran (we still are), and it was believed that Hussein would be a help in dealing with Iran. Also, not much was known then that Hussein would ultimately be the monster he became.

Which side are you on anyway? Or are you just finding another outlet for Bush-bashing, father and son? I’m wondering that because of your last few comments!

Yeah, but the point is that he met with him without insisting that Gorbachev free all dissidents and hold democratic elections. Those would have been ludicrous preconditions, don’t you think? Also, the Soviets were a genuine adversary. Cuba is about as much of a genuine adversary to the U.S. as the local elementary school T-ball team is to the Yankees. What is Cuba going to do — send more Cubans to South Florida? We already have close to a million of ‘em . . . .

Not much. Only the downfall of the Soviet Union.

No, he only holds their hands. Embraces them. Invites them to take long romantic walks in Texas.

Why would you want to enhance the credibility of the Cuban regime and crush the hopes and dreams of the oppressed Cuban people?

After all, isolation has worked so well to crush the corrupt Cuban regime, hasn't it?

What kind of DUmmie are you?

What kind of lick-spittle are you?

I don't blindly lap up Bush's spittle like you, if that's what you're asking. I'm only pointing out that contrary to Bush's pronouncement, previous presidents have never placed preconditions before meeting with our enemies.

Well....it’s pretty stupid to start out meeting face to face with a dictator. Have them unjam the signals so their people can listen and watch stuff that’s not on Castro’s approved list. Have them release political prisoners prior to having a US rep. meet with them.

Castro probably won’t agree to our conditions. Castro needs to be overthrown, not negotiated with, IMO.

Nixon’s precondition for meeting with China was don’t do anything to defend North Vietnam as we bomb the hell out of it.

Reagan got nothing from meeting Gorby. Reagan left Reykjavik with his tail between his legs. That marked the end of accommodating the USSR.

Why do want to make friends with our enemies and enemies out of our longtime allies like Saudi Arabia?

Why would you want to make the enemies of free people like the Castros rich so that the could crush us?

Your GD right I’ll defend the policies of our of visionary President Bush against big Ol’ Dummies who lick the spittle of murderous tyrants.

Got a link to support this?

Reagan got nothing from meeting Gorby. Reagan left Reykjavik with his tail between his legs. That marked the end of accommodating the USSR.

So, what preconditions did Reagan put into place before meeting with Gorbachev? Please provide a link that shows that Reagan stopped accomodating the USSR and what exactly that means.

Why do want to make friends with our enemies and enemies out of our longtime allies like Saudi Arabia?

They aren't our allies. (US government calls Saudis 'significant source' of terror funds)

Your GD right I’ll defend the policies of our of visionary President Bush against big Ol’ Dummies who lick the spittle of murderous tyrants.

Visionary? I suppose you also support his 'visionary' efforts to legalize 20+ million illegal aliens and given them US Social Security benefits, too?

Why do want to make friends with our enemies and enemies out of our longtime allies like Saudi Arabia?

Saudi Arabia is hub of world terror:

An analysis by NBC News suggested that the Saudis make up 55% of foreign fighters in Iraq. They are also among the most uncompromising and militant.

Half the foreign fighters held by the US at Camp Cropper near Baghdad are Saudis. They are kept in yellow jumpsuits in a separate, windowless compound after they attempted to impose sharia on the other detainees and preached an extreme form of Wahhabist Islam.

In recent months, Saudi religious scholars have caused consternation in Iraq and Iran by issuing fatwas calling for the destruction of the great Shi’ite shrines in Najaf and Karbala in Iraq, some of which have already been bombed. And while prominent members of the ruling al-Saud dynasty regularly express their abhorrence of terrorism, leading figures within the kingdom who advocate extremism are tolerated.

Sheikh Saleh al-Luhaidan, the chief justice, who oversees terrorist trials, was recorded on tape in a mosque in 2004, encouraging young men to fight in Iraq. “Entering Iraq has become risky now,” he cautioned. “It requires avoiding those evil satellites and those drone aircraft, which own every corner of the skies over Iraq. If someone knows that he is capable of entering Iraq in order to join the fight, and if his intention is to raise up the word of God, then he is free to do so.”
