You can bet there’s money involved and ‘Lupe’ is in cahoots with the authorities in Arizona. Once the priest revoked the original power-of-attorney and re-appointed his relative and made his wishes clear, this should have been a simple matter. Legally, it’s very straightforward to that point. Then for the State in Arizona to intervene to try to prove mental incompetence is of no advantage to them unless something underhanded is going on and they are all going to benefit by pushing out the family. Further, the priest’s statements and requests to be near family and the sacraments seem to demonstrate mental competence, it’s exactly what one would expect of a rational person facing death.
