Anyone who disputes this should be required to say from what moral authority the EC derives a right to confiscate wealth from a private company. It might have the power, but it does not have the right.

Same argument could be made about Big Oil (tm).

Easy solution.

Just update all the Windows programs in Europe to commit suicide.

And promoting standards (e.g. OOXML) that benefit your own best interest is exactly what John Galt whould have championed.

Rearden was much more a "take it or leave it" guy. MS is deliberately attempting to lock up YOUR data with their proprietary file formats.

And yes, they are an EVIL company.

“MS is deliberately attempting to lock up YOUR data with their proprietary file formats.”

What does that mean? Proprietary file formats are the norm. Adobe Acrobat, WordPerfect, TurboTax.... (endless list) all have proprietary file formats.

If you’re worried about locking up your data, you should be far more concerned about Google.

> “And yes, they are an EVIL company.”

And oh, now they’re the devil too! Well, no wonder they’re subject to an anti-trust suit. We can’t have any company with a monopoly on EVIL.

Thanks for the reply. MS is entering a period of transition with the Yahoo purchase. We may not recognize the company so much from here on. I wonder whether a retention problem will affect its ability to execute.
