How much true reform did you see when Phil and his buddies Gingrich and Armey held the reins of power? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...

I agree, that Congress was deeply disappointing. They threw away Reaganomics in favor of a phony balanced budget paradigm. I think the blame falls mostly on Gingrich and Kasich, though. Gramm and Armey were always pushing for long term growth oriented reforms.

Sounds like more RINOs arranging the deck chairs of the Titanic aka the McPain campaign.

The Gramms, Forbes, and Kemp are RINOs? Kemp is the original tax cutter, Forbes is probably the most energetic proponent of Reaganomics in the world today, Wendy Gramm was Reagan's favorite economist, and if not for Phil Gramm we'd have already been living under HillaryCare for a decade. McCain has given us many horrors, but this group is a Who's Who of heroes of capitalism.

Nice peek into the economic views of CNN's "business" editors: Lower taxes, lower government spending and free markets = radical ideas and zealotry.

Yes. Amazing that just the idea of the government redistributing a third instead of half or more of everyone's earnings is some kind of wild extremism.

John McCain will grantsamnesty to 20-40 million+ Illegal Aliens who will vote 70%+ Democrat (As they always have). The resultant imbalance of majority Democrat votes will force the GOP into minority status for decades to come. On top of that, millions of conservatives will leave the GOP because of John McCains treachery further deepening the imbalance of GOP votes to Democrat votes. The final 'nail in the coffin' will be his total inaction against chain-migration that will bring millions more Democrat votes into the equation.

Good points, but I don't see Obama doing any better on immigration. Assuming he doesn't, at least McCain might veto some tax increases and keep free market health care reform ideas in play.

You're right, I am being supposing and hoping a great deal here. But with Obama I see no hope. The only argument I can see for him is that Dems not Repubs will get the credit for the ensuing disasters. I'm not willing to give up Supreme Court seats for that possibility, though.

I’m sure McCain will “stick to these principles” until the day after the election.

I agree, he is a very charming person. The more you see of him, the more you wonder why he didn’t go higher. But that’s soundbite culture for you. I hope McCain makes him part of his cabinet, maybe even his Veep-one can hope!

I remember Phil Gramm used to say he didn't have the face to be elected. It was self-depracating humor, but I think, sadly, there was truth in it. Imagine Obama had Gramm's looks and down home style. I doubt they would be fainting in the isles from his substance-free speeches.

Yes, sad. That’s why I didn’t think he was going to make the nomination. He made too much sense and he came across as the good-natured academic he is. In a sane world, he would have done better.

Maybe you should be McCain’s talking points person, as your two sentence statement better summed up McCain’s position than his hour long speech did. :D

Then, should he get elected, it will be for one term and possibly the end of the Republican Party as we know it.
