OK, I’m older that dirt. born in 1944. So the 50’s were great for me!!!! Country life..riding horses, swimming pond, the post office and dry goods store were together. We had one small grocery and another store that sold everything from mule harnesses to bobby pins. Had a small catholic church and a small babtist church. No phones in the middle of nowhere so we had to go to this lady’s house and make them from a switchboard. she was the local beautician as well. I was the first white child with an afro - she gave me a perm once...I cried for days. Great times.
I recall all of us paying outside on summer nights in the late 50s and 60s....None of the parents were concerned about our safety in the neighborhood. Watching out for cars was the big concern of day....Gangs, drive-by shootings, senseless daily mass murders, and lawless illegal invasions from other countries just wasn’t happening.
After the World Series was over, we'd run outside and play catch. IN THE SNOW! {Buffalo, NY}
Yes, the 50's seemed so peaceful...but then again, I wasn't a teenager until 1959. LOL!
