This crew, like the crew aboard the USS Jimmy Carter, is specially trained to avoid conflicts and appease any and all enemies of the United States at all costs! Hey now. Take it easy on my shipmates. They didn't get to pick the name.

The USS John McCain is named after either Senator McCain's father or grandfather, both of whom were admirals.
Given that that two carriers are named after presidents who served on carriers, (George HW Bush and Gerald Ford), I assume that any ship named after a "president" McCain would be a carrier. I also expect it to have an extra fire-control team.
