This probably has more to do with the appearance of black hair on furnture, clothes and carpent. I hope the article is kind of joking.
The article is not joking. I’ve been working with dogs since 1978, and the “black dog syndrome” is common knowledge to animal professionals.

I adopted 2 puppies last year from PetSmart and they told me they have a harder time giving away black dogs. I did adopt a black male - his sister is tan/black. He’s a mama’s boy and she’s a holy terror!
