We have two absolutely adorable black Lab mixes we adopted from a shelter. Their whole litter of seven got adopted really fast. At least four other black dogs within a two block radius of us. Maybe people just like black dogs in Iowa?
Just for disclosure, I (we) own two dogs. Neither is black, though. One is a brownish shiba inu; everyone thinks she is a fox (literally). We almost bought a black (mostly) and tan shiba, but wound up with a sheltie mix; he’s a klutz, but friendly.
Since I became an independent adult, I’ve been the dog father to four male lab mixes. Three of the four were mostly black. Right now I have one chocolate dog, half chocolate lab and half Weimaraner and a black and while, black lab and half pit, who was supposed to be half black lab and half Great Dane. The Pitador, adopted from the Scott Co., KY Humane Society, is the funniest, bumpiest, most self-confident, friendly dog I have ever had.
