THe founding fathers stated clearly in the federalist papers that the states were sovereign and couldn’t be attacked if they left. An amendment was proposed to allow the fed to attack a state if it left and Madison shot it down. Henry, Jefferson, PIckering, Adams, Madison, Taylor, and even the monarch Hamilton all stated that the federal could not attack a seceding state. THe New England states almost seceded in the 1800s.
Confederates soldiers did not fight for slavery they petitioned their government in overwhelming numbers to free the slaves, give them equal pay and land to fight for the south. Every flag can be connected one way or another to something bad. I say keep them flying and move on to more important issues.
Take care!!
JAck
