In January 1974 about a 1000 USAF airmen were vaccinated with an experimental vaccine that later was found to have caused cancer in laboratory animals. I learned of this in an advanced virology class at the University of Tennessee in 1979. I also found out, since I kept my original shot record, that I was one of them. Sometimes one doesn’t get to choose.....

[Looked around for a Sperm bank gig, but (sadly) I could never land one of those.]

I understand there's a substantial penalty for early withdrawal, including loss of interest. (ba-dum BUM!)

Cheers!

LMAO  :-)

This might be a good place to start:

Welcome to Seattle Biomedical Research Institute

Be advised that your personal health insurance coverage may be invalidated by your knowingly infecting yourself with a disease known to have longterm effects.......... most underwriters would tend to look at such a scenario in an unfriendly way, methinks   :-)

That's cool. Anything for science, man.

...and beer money.

This is one medical experiment I’d never volunteer for.

Me neither.....to intentionally place a tenacious, rapidly-reproducing parasite into your bloodstream when there is no guaranteed and complete cure is, in my view, something for suicides and the mentally-impaired to consider but nobody else.

I suppose that this sort of thing is verboten within the prison system thanks to the ACLU?  Probably.

I'm very sorry to hear of your suffering, and I hope that you are completely free of it now.

May God Bless you and yours, and thank you so very much for your service to our country.

Here's a fashionable adult beverage of your choice, given in the context of a medicinal curative, of course   :-)

LOL

Well, I suppose you'll be able to buy quite a few beers with the money that they will pay you, and that might get you through a few of the recurrent symptoms :-)

  • Cerebral malaria, with abnormal behavior, impairment of consciousness, seizures, coma, or other neurologic abnormalities
  • Severe anemia due to hemolysis (destruction of the red blood cells)
  • Hemoglobinuria (hemoglobin in the urine) due to hemolysis
  • Pulmonary edema (fluid buildup in the lungs) or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), which may occur even after the parasite counts have decreased in response to treatment
  • Abnormalities in blood coagulation and thrombocytopenia (decrease in blood platelets)
  • Cardiovascular collapse and shock

  • Acute kidney failure
  • Hyperparasitemia, where more than 5% of the red blood cells are infected by malaria parasites
  • Metabolic acidosis (excessive acidity in the blood and tissue fluids), often in association with hypoglycemia
  • Hypoglycemia (low blood glucose). Hypoglycaemia may also occur in pregnant women with uncomplicated malaria, or after treatment with quinine.

  • Neurologic defects may occasionally persist following cerebral malaria, especially in children. Such defects include troubles with movements (ataxia), palsies, speech difficulties, deafness, and blindness.
  • Recurrent infections with P. falciparum may result in severe anemia. This occurs especially in young children in tropical Africa with frequent infections that are inadequately treated.
  • Malaria during pregnancy (especially P. falciparum) may cause severe disease in the mother, and may lead to premature delivery or delivery of a low-birth-weight baby.
  • On rare occasions, P. vivax malaria can cause rupture of the spleen or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
  • Nephrotic syndrome (a chronic, severe kidney disease) can result from chronic or repeated infections with P. malariae.
  • Hyperreactive malarial splenomegaly (also called "tropical splenomegaly syndrome") occurs infrequently and is attributed to an abnormal immune response to repeated malarial infections. The disease is marked by a very enlarged spleen and liver, abnormal immunologic findings, anemia, and a susceptibility to other infections (such as skin or respiratory infections).

Sounds like the couple thousand dollars that they pay you should more than compensate for all of the above, wouldn't you say  :-)

Don't worry...."rupture of the spleen" is no big deal at all!

Hey, that's great!  You sound like just the sort that they're looking for in this clinical trial!

I should introduce you to one of my friends....he recently completed another clinical trial for an innovative fix for 'gunshot wound to the head'  and he's recovered perfectly well with no lasting effects whatsoever.  I think that he'd be delighted to meet you and fill you in on what you can expect, but please don't tell him how much you're going to be paid in this venture....he only got $450. for his trial participation and he's quite happy with it, as you can see.   :-) exopthalmic

I wonder if the people who are violently opposed to animal testing will be among the first to volunteer?

I'm guessing that they will have a ready excuse for not participating, and it will hinge not on any longterm dangers to themselves but on their idea that there exists a computer modeling program that allows a perfect recreation of human physiology to the point where any form of testing on living things is unnecessary.  When asked to indicate which specific modeling program they are referring to, they will immediately become upset and leave the room   :-)

I discovered that Jack, straight up helped. It’s kept the reoccurrence away for almost 20 years now.
