DAVIS – A student was in custody Thursday following the discovery of explosive devices at the University of California, Davis. Two partially assembled pipe bombs were found in a student's dorm room, university spokeswoman Lisa Lapin said. Authorities believe it was an isolated incident and said there was no need to detonate any devices.

More than 450 students were evacuated Wednesday night from eight dormitories and slept in dining halls or at the homes of family and friends. They were expected to be let back into their dorm rooms later Thursday morning, Lapin said.

Police became aware of the situation Wednesday night after a woman reported that students had possible explosive devices.

Students were evacuated immediately, but police saw no imminent danger of an explosion and waited until Thursday morning to get a search warrant, which requires a judge's signature.

After questioning four students, police arrested 19-year-old Mark Woods, a freshman from Southern California. Lapin said he has been cooperating with authorities.

Woods was being held on possession of materials with the intent to make an explosive or destructive device and other charges and possession with intent to make such a device on school grounds.

"After questioning four students, police arrested 19-year-old Mark Woods"

"Mark Woods?" Okay, call me cynical, but dollars to donuts that "Mark Woods" is an alias. LOL

You'ld think with 450 students displaced that some poor judge could have been awakened for that signature. Sheesh!

My first thought was that if the kid’s name had been Muhammed Achmed or some such, it would have been left out of the story.

Isn’t UC Davis a mainly agricultural school? I’d expect this kind of thing at Berkeley or UCLA, but UC Davis? Shows what I know.

Please place on You Tube his untimely death caused by the sudden stop that follows his rapid fall from the campus library’s roof. Repeat until desired affects are achieved.

UCal-Davis is a state school.
He applied for admission and chose to live in the dorms.

They needed a “search warrant”?

In another news story, this is what some students had to say about "Mark Woods:"
So you see, all the "speculation" was for nothing - he's a great guy! who just happened to have two pipe bombs in his dorm.

Absolutely, any place, including a locked dorm room, needs a search warrant to enter & search...contrary to what some out-of-staters think, California is still part of U.S.A and not China LOL

“..he’s a great guy! who just happened to have two pipe bombs in his dorm.”

Then the student body should have nothing to worry about and allow this guy to keep his pipe bombs.

So, those sniffer dog pass throughs at the local college should be declared unconstitutional? I’ll be preparing my brief for the 9th circus!

UC Davis is as leftist as it gets. And Davis, CA is one of the most leftist cities in CA. First city in CA to ban indoor smoking, I believe, for example.

I think I can speak on this. Not the first to ban indoor smoking but definitely one of the first to ban outdoor smoking, in parks and withing twenty feet of doors.

Thanks! I graduated from UC Davis in 1991 and I couldn’t remember the exact smoking law that was so groundbreaking.

Great college town though; I would go there again.

They’re also a nuclear free zone and they built an underpass for frogs and one of the candidates for mayor wanted to build city hall out of straw!
UC Davis is also a medical and vet school.
