Colombian military kills another senior FARC leader: Iván Ríos
BBC ^

The Colombian security forces say they have killed another senior member of the Farc rebel group.

The reported death of Ivan Rios is the second blow to the left-wing guerrilla group in less than a week.

Last Saturday another top commander, Raul Reyes, was killed by troops in a raid just inside Ecuador.

He was the first member of the Farc's ruling secretariat to die in combat. The killing triggered a diplomatic row, with Ecuador denouncing the incursion.

Colombians know how to wage war, and who the enemy is.

That thread on the new sniper rifle may be able to help them.

He can’t attack Colombia, he doesn’t have the military power to do so.

Also this confrontation is highly unpopular in Venezuela, it is hard to determine what are the local benefits.

Internationally I guess he’s getting closer to loser governments like Nicaragua and Cuba, but that’s not going to help his country.

Will he dare to attack Colombia?

He might well dare it. Whether his military can get anyplace is a question.

Chavez can’t do anything. He’s pretty much done all he can, which is put troops on the border so that Columbia can’t come into Venezuela to kill the FARC terrorists he is harboring there.

Some ex CIA operative opined on FOX news that Chavez’s military hardware was not a match for Colombia’s more modern equipment.

Yeah, apparently it’s Hugo himself. He keeps making phone calls to these guys, and we, oops, the Columbian SOF’s are supposedly triangulating positions from these.

Hugo has more modern planes, but Colombia has a big friend with Stingers. Who knows how that will turn out. Also, Colombian troops have been fighting FARC for a while. Venezuelan troops usually just beat up civilians. Who is in better fighting shape?
