Racine - A Racine County jury this afternoon found Ezequiel Lopez-Quintero guilty of first-degree intentional homicide and use of a dangerous weapon in the shooting death of Kenosha County sheriff's Deputy Frank Fabiano Jr.
Lopez-Quintero, 45, an illegal immigrant living in Kenosha, faces a mandatory life sentence for the conviction of first-degree intentional homicide and up to an additional five years for use of a dangerous weapon.
Fabiano, a former U.S. Marine and an 18-year veteran of the sheriff's department, was gunned down on the night of May 16, 2007, while attempting a routine traffic stop in the town of Somers.
Defense Attorney Frederick Cohn had admitted in opening arguments that his client, Lopez-Quintero, probably fired the fatal shots, but Cohn argued that Lopez-Quintero was too drunk the night of the shooting to have done it intentionally. After driving to Chicago to buy a gun from gang members in a parking lot, Lopez-Quintero drank two bottles of tequila and used cocaine prior to the shooting, Cohn said. Cohn argued that his client did not recall shooting Fabiano.
Immediately after the shooting, Lopez-Quintero fled and was tracked down via satellite through his cell phone. His daughter had given investigators her father's cell phone number. His blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit of .08 when it was taken at the hospital, several hours after the shooting, according to court records.
Kenosha County District Attorney Robert Zapf successfully argued that Lopez-Quintero was angry that night and took it out on an unsuspecting Fabiano, who was simply doing his job.
I don’t care how drunk or stoned someone is nobody forced you to get that way. He needs the needle.
Too bad Wisconsin doesn’t have the death penalty.
Send this story to Geraldo. He says the average citizen is 10 times more likely to commit a capital crime than an illegal alien.
Just what a America needs, a few million of these guys...
Too bad those in government that have encouraged and aided and abetted this violent invasion can't be held criminally responsible by the endless line of victims remaining family members.
No we’re 10 brazillion times more likely to commit a crime than an illegal saint.
He's living on another planet, way out of touch on this issue and more than a little biased. I just get mad every time he comes on TV.....I have to turn it off or change channels.
I’d like to re-break his nose.
The defense attorney certainly presented a powerful argument, for conviction. Too bad they don’t have the death penalty.
Well here is another LEO that has been gunned down by one of these retched people.I wonder when enough will be enough? This guy really needs the needle.
So according to his attorney he should have been aquitted because he was so drunk and stoned out of his mind he didn't know what he was doing and can't remember killing this fine officer.
Just because he was here illegally and bought a firearm on the black market and used it to kill a cop is no reason to send this guy to jail, I mean, come on it isn't as if he was a border patrol officer shooting and illegal. /huge sarcasm tag
What the heck does "five years for use of a dangerous weapon" mean?
No, this bastard needs to be introduced to “Ol’ Sparky.”
Another crime committed by an illegal alien follower of ole Grumpy-Nasty McPain.
