Following this logic of the article's author, Mark Daniels, it would make more sense to choose Condi Rice. Not only is she a female, she is a Black Female and not as Liberal (Moderate) as Whitman.

Consider the source folks. This isn’t McCain’s campaign talking, it’s a ‘moderate’ on his blog, engaging in wishful thinking.

I live in NJ. Voted for Christie Whitman her first term. Never again. Not sure I’m gonna vote for McCain in Nov and I’m a conservative. If she’s his VP, then I know for sure he’s as far from a conservative as I’ve yet to see be the candidate for the republican party. Christie Whitman isn’t a conservative by any stretch of the imagination.

I completely agree about Whitman as I’m sure any conservative in NJ would agree also. Unless of course those claminng to be conservative were just man hating feminists who just happen to belong to the R party.

Christie Whitman and John McCain? Not sure who I’d say was MORE liberal.

She is a anti-gun (zero tolerance) -- nuff said?
As naive in foreign policy and defense as Obama -- now nuff said?

Condi would be better for guns.
But overall, maybe Olympia Snowe?

I have pretty much resigned myself to voting for McCain in November.

This would free me from that resignation.

Anybody who would pick Whitman does not have what it takes to be President.

This is the worst suggestion I’ve heard yet. Well, other than Lindsey Graham.

i’m from new jersey

all this guy’s claimed advantages for whitman are non-existent or mythical

the dems will tear up her ‘environmental friendly’ record with her federal epa record post-911 regarding air quality at ground zero (rightly or wrongly, that record is in giant dispute)

as gov, she was no fiscal conservative, just another fiscal gimmicker

the base has no faith in the rlc

she fires, and inspires, the imagination of no one - country club blue-bloods never do

her ‘female’ status will be treated by the dims and the media with no greater, and possibly worse, regard than was given condoleeza rice - because, as a moderate, she will play into their attacks by being defensive on gop conservative positions - the only gop female who has a chance is a truly conservative female who is not afraid of her conservatism, thus demonstrating that moderates and libs alone do not speak - to say the gop NEEDS a moderate female like whitman is to say majority gop positions on abortion are wrong - they’re not

whitman would not be a factor gaining nj for the gop in the potus vote

if mccain DOES pick a woman, she will be a conservative, not a moderate RINO

The most laughable part is the statement that her nomination would fire up the imagination of the electorate.

McCain won’t pick Whitman. This is one guy typing away on his computer. He knows nothing.

She won big with dims and indies huh?

* 1997 Race for Governor: Christine Todd Whitman (R) (inc.), 47% - James McGreevey (D), 46%
* 1993 Race for Governor: Christine Todd Whitman (R), 49% - James Florio (D) (inc.), 48%
* 1990 Race for U.S. Senate: Bill Bradley (D) (inc.), 50% - Christine Todd Whitman (R), 47%

She BARLEY beat Jim “Tax Hike” Florio and Jim “Aunt Nancy” McSveevy.
