Rep. King: Al-Qaida would celebrate Obama victory
CBS 2 NEWS ^

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Iowa Congressman Steve King says terrorists would celebrate if Democratic candidate Barack Obama won the presidency.

King, a Republican, bases his prediction on several criteria: Obama's pledge to pull troops out of Iraq, his Kenyan heritage and his middle name Hussein -- a reminder of Iraq's former leader.

King, in an interview today with the Daily Reporter in Spencer, said al-Qaida would -- quote -- "be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on September 11th."

King says terrorists would declare victory in the war on terror because Obama would pull troops out of the Middle East.

The congressman added -- quote -- "They'll be dancing in the streets because of his middle name, they'll be dancing in the streets because of who his father was."

King's comments are the latest attack on Obama's heritage. The Illinois senator, born in Hawaii to a white Kansas woman and a Kenyan man, has said he is a Christian and has little connection to the Islamic religion.

Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor criticized King and others who have brought Obama's heritage into the presidential debate.

...and has little connection to the Islamic religion...

Other than being raised in a Muslim family (whom his sister says is very religious) in a Muslim country (Indonesia), supporting Muslim sharia proponents in Kenya (cousin Raila Odinga, for whom Barack has actively campaigned). But other than that, he has no connection whatsoever to the Islamic religion.

I do find it amusing that it was Hillary’s campaign that first started using this issue with statements from Shaheen and Bob Kerrey.

There is no comeback in politics. You have one election to deal with, because you may not see another. A big victory by the Rats could result in 50 years of rule and we can not survive 50 years of Rat rule.

He should have stuck to the “pull troops out of Iraq”, and left out the commentary about his middle name and ethnic heritage. It sounds racist.

.
It’s not meant to be racist, it needs to be expanded on, because Obama does embolden our enemies.

I guess I am racist, I see nothing wrong with calling a spade a spade.

“Somethings need not be said but he is right”

Hear! Hear! Mr. King said it exactly right.

Only days ago, there was a spirited discussion right here on FR regarding the “middle name that must not be mentioned”. Mr. King speaks it outloud, and it resonates with him EXACTLY as it will resonate with the type of voters we may need to win, if Mr. Obama becomes the nominee.

There is a level of self-imposed political correctness right here on FR that rivals the socialized world outside.

Since when has “Hussein” become a new “n-word”?
Are conservatives - even the vocal ones here - going to submit to the left, which will define for us what we can speak - and THINK?

In post #8, nj26 writes:
“I think we need to be careful about the type of content that is posted to this site. And be sure that there’s nothing that could be construed as racist. Pictures morphing Obama’s face into OBL’s are pushing the boundaries from my perspective. Just my opinion... others can weigh in”

Hogwash.
nj26 speaks of things “that could be construed as racist”. This is the ESSENCE of political correctness, for it is not I or we or you who will do the construin’; once we begin to think this way, it will be the LEFT who will declare that ANYthing we say that they don’t like is “racist”, or, whatever “ist” will do at the moment.

We should be UNAFRAID to tread that path and use those words that the left will AUTOMATICALLY try to toss back at us as “racists”. If we cower, their attacks will become bolder, and their definitions of “racist” will grow broader. If we cower, we will be cornered.

I, for one, think Mr. King should go right on a-talkin’!

- John

Sometimes actions speak louder than words.

If Senator McCain wants to call Senator Obama an "honorable" person that is ok with me.

When Senator McCain thinks that for us to use Senator Barack HUSSEIN Obama's middle name is wrong that is a problem because when he does that he is implying to use it is racist!

At this time in our history we are at war with radical Islam. They want to kill us and destroy our way of life. There is no doubt about that now. Senator Barack Hussein Obama has an Islamic background. A person's religious background is generally not an issue. Barack claims to be a "Christian." So we are supposed to stop right there and not question him further. However, when we examine his "Christian" church we get a different look at who Barack Hussein Obama is. The church he has attended is on the same level as a Ku Klux Klan except they are wearing black sheets instead of white sheets AND to top it all off they spout their racism for the world to see! But, according to the PC world that we live in we are not to question this racism because it is "allowable" racism. Barack talks about getting rid of the things that "divide" us but yet participates in a a church that divides the USA into black and white.

At this time in history we need a President who understands Islam. We do not need a President who is going to sympathize with radical Islam's agenda or cozy up to them so they can stab us in the back later.

The fact that Barack Hussein Obama will not wear an American flag lapel pin or cover his heart while the National Anthem (American National Anthem) is only a symptom that shows where is allegiance is.

Obama Nation 1

“He should have stuck to the “pull troops out of Iraq”, and left out the commentary about his middle name and ethnic heritage. It sounds racist.”

Unfortunately, sometimes the truth does, but that doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t be spoken. The effort to censor the spoken word in order to avoid any semblance of offense is the root of the “p.c.” movement, and the fruits of that movement speak for themselves: it was, and is, a HUGE and far-reaching mistake. Can you imagine if the patriots who began the Revolutionary War had worried about sounding Anglophobic? Or if the USA had remained neutral in WWII because they didn’t want to offend the Japanese citizens (let’s just treat it as a police matter, not an act of war), or didn’t want to publicly label Germany as anti-Semitic (that’s so racist, you know)? Ridiculous. Our country is great now because of the courage and freedom we have had to speak the truth since its inception, and to act on that truth when necessary and appropriate. To censor and kowtow sets us on a path to become no different than any other nation, and that would be a travesty.

We've already branded Hispanics as illegals

Don't be a race-baiter. Nobody's branded me or my family illegal.

The only Hispanics anyone has branded illegal are the ones who illegally sneak across our border and illegally steal our identities so that they can illegally work here while illegally using taxpayer-funded benefits and illegally avoiding paying taxes, and then illegally ignoring any deportation orders that might come their way.

I'm not race baiting anything. I have many Hispanic friends and a Hispanic daughter-in-law all legal and born in this country. They also are Republican well educated and very productive citizens. They also to a person are staunchly pro life. My friend was actually asked if she was a citizen by one of her co workers. She had to tell them yes she was as was her great grandparents. There is a certain tone this whole thing has taken on that is starting to be resented by many natural born of Hispanic decent.

My wife is hispanic - Puerto Rican - and she is more anti-illegal immigration than I am. I think a lot of "typical" Hispanic looking people are getting fed up with the illegals partly because of the backlash that is resulting from illegals lowering wages, taking jobs, committing crimes, driving w/o insurance, costing our medical and judicial systems (and thus, us) billions, etc.

We desperately need to control the border.

My daughter-in-law is also Puerto Rican. What I'm talking about is not the merit of the subject but rather the tone it has taken on. We as conservatives and Republicans are surely intelligent enough to find a way to fight this without antagonizing an entire race of people. While many Hispanics are upset about the costs of illegals just as many are resentful about how the conversation is going. There are also many many decent Arab Americans and yes Muslims in this country but they are all painted with the same slurs they are either referred to as towel heads and worse or terrorists and their religion as demonic. Who will be in the cross-hairs next Irish Catholics? (thats me)

Until Irish Catholics start blowing things up, cutting off heads, making women cover from head to toe, and forcing everyone to convert to Catholosism, I don't believe you have anything to worry about. You don't want any of those things, do you?

Both innocent Muslims and Hispanics are unfortunate to belong to groups where there are huge numbers of common/civil law breaking. As for slurs, those don't phase my wife and we raise our children to not have any possible slurs phase them. Those are only words.

As for Islam being demonic or satanic? Do you believe it is the religion of our God? If not, then what is it? If it is, then convert to it.

PC strikes again...Let’s all censor ourselves to keep from offending the perpetually offended. It IS his middle name and I do not believe that using it is in any way racist. He has held fundraisers for and supported islamic causes in the past, that is the truth. I do not see anything wrong with bringing it up. The man was raised in a muslim country and is probably considered an apostate by the middle eastern leaders he will have to deal with as President. I do not think that pointing this out to voters is wrong. I think it is an important point to consider.
