LONDON - A patient was told there was no reason why he couldn't have surgery in a hospital, despite the smell caused by a dead rodent trapped in the building's ceiling.
Andrew Cowper was due to have an operation at the Queen Elizabeth II hospital in Hertfordshire when staff "were made aware of a dead rodent in the single storey unit's roof space," the hospital said in a statement.
The hospital said its experts concluded that the dead animal was outside the operating theater and posed no risk.
But "despite being told that the trust's infection control experts had stated that Mr Cowper was not being exposed to an infection risk, he decided not to proceed with the operation," it said.
Cowper, 19, told the Sun newspaper he had waited 11 months for the operation, and the doctor told him he could go ahead despite the stench.
"He said the smell didn't represent a health risk, but I was appalled," Cowper said. "I asked him: 'If you were me, would you have the operation?' He looked at me and said 'no', so I decided there and then I wasn't going to go ahead."
“... he had waited 11 months for the operation...”
He must have pull — how else did he get an elective operation in only 11 months?
‘E’s not dead. ‘E’s pinin’ for the Stilton.
NO, it will be 11 minutes. Long enough for the doctor to sloppily suit up.
An abortion is a much cheaper medical procedure than childbirth, so it will probably be practically free, if not mandatory.
ROFLMAO!
Dead rats in a hospital is unacceptable. At the very least the socialists could provide live rats.
The smell of dead rat is the price of poison vs traps.
Dept of Motor Vehicles/IRS/Post Office, meet health care.
"I have what doctors call very active glands...."
The REAL interesting part will be if he has to wait another yr or so to 'try it again'
I just had to comment to your post. Somehow almost every year a mouse will get between the walls of our house and die. You are so right about the smell. It is just awful. It is this sickly sweet smell and it is very unique - nothing else smells quite like it. It always happens during the summer and the heat will make it so intense that I have literally gone crazy. My husband has done his best but there is no way he could ever find it.
I just chalk it up to living in the country. I never had this happen when I was a “city” girl.
