Serbia - Serbian government collapses over EU and Kosovo
The Economic Times ^ | March 8, 2008

excerpt -

BELGRADE: Serbia's government collapsed on Saturday and early elections loomed as pro-Western President Boris Tadic and nationalist Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica faced off over Kosovo and EU integration.

Kostunica said his cabinet would meet on Monday to formally dissolve parliament and urged Tadic to call new elections for May 11, the same date as existing municipal polls.

"The government of Serbia has no united policy any more on an important issue related to the future of the country, Kosovo as a part of Serbia," Kostunica told reporters in Belgrade.

"Such a government could not function any more. This is the end of the government and we should return the mandate to the people," he said.

Tadic rejected Kostunica's attempts to frame the crisis around Kosovo and said the real issue was whether or not Serbia chooses to continue along the path to full membership of the European Union.

Concede? What manner of dope are you smoking?

I congratulate you on your highly innovative repartee and your willingness to further abase yourself for my amusement. It isn't necessary, but thank you.

"No, any reasonable person would recognize a joke being made when they heard it."

Some things just don't work well as joke material, such as saying that setting fire to U.S. Embassies "isn't a bad option". The burning of our embassy in Belgrade was an outrageous and intolerable attack against the United States.

"Apparently, a sense of humor is as lacking in Serb-haters as is conscience or character."

For the record, I'm no Serb hater. One of my best friends is a Serbian-American.

There wouldn’t BE a war; just an embarassment. There wouldn’t be a thing in the world Jorge and Kongaloser could do about it and you can be certain that nobody in Europe would. As to our rogue state department, I don’t really need carnage and would settle for permanent cases of amnesia for everyb ody who ever worked at the place. For that matter the Old Testament is full of references to the Lord destroying various organizations for the same kinds of activities Foggy Bottom engages in.

Oh, no cliche there, eh?

Point him to your posts and see how quickly he realizes how foolish he has been.

It can be simplified to using dopelite. :-)

There exists a group of posters on FR who support the burning of US embassies, who support the dictatorship of Vladimir Putin, and who basically condemn America and the West in general for Serbia and Russia's problems.

Strange. I no longer even read my Freeper Email because of the wacky emails I got from Putin supporters while I was criticizing Putin. Yet, I think the US is wrong in Kosovo, in fact I think most everything Clinton ever did was wrong. The way the US and Europe has played right into Putin's hands is laughable. We are being led by idiots trying to play chess with Russian masters. Or as that Fascists Tyrant Putin so accurately stated, 'Do you think you are smarter then us'. I know the correct answer to that question. Do you ?

And there exist a couple of posters on FR who support the destruction of Orthodox Christian Churches by any means.

What scum!

Luckily, Divine Liturgy attendance rates demonstrate that there are almost no Orthodox Christians in Serbia at all, so those who support the destruction of Orthodox Christianity will not see their cause furthered by the Serbian government's self-destructive course.

When Putin's regime is an unpleasant memory in a yet-again-chastened Russia, the US will still be the world's sole superpower.

We are smarter than Russia, in part because so many of Russia's best minds prefer to make a life for themselves here.

wideawake:"Fascists Tyrant Putin"

You forgot about him eating babies too.

Israel and Russia are growing closer and closer. Putin is the only World statesman, along with the Pope, who speaks up for the plight of Iraq's Christians. Putin supports Infidel Serbia against Muslim Kosovo. Putin's saved Russia and is incredibly popular there.

BUT Putin's a fascist 'cos....erm....erm

Let me guess, you call all adults you don't like, "fascists". Maths teachers 'cos the sums are too 'ard. Your dad 'cos 'e makes you come 'ome before 11.

I bet you have acne too.

Whoops. Apologies, wideawake.

No need, BB. I agree with justa-hairyape that Vladimir Putin is a fascist dictator.

Vladimir Putin is, by training, a secret police thug from the KGB.

Vladimir Putin rules by decree. He decreed that all Presidents of the Russian Federation would be perpetually immune from criminal investigation and prosecution upon leaving office. He abolished, by personal decree, the federal structure of the Russian Federation's constitution. He did this by installing personal governors appointed by him over the federal districts of the RF and by giving them power to veto the acts taken by the elected legislatures and executives of these districts.

He then moved forward with legislation to eliminate local executives altogether.

He has closed down by decree media outlets that criticize him.

He has used the full power of the state to launch lengthy investigations and prosecutions of any prominent citizens who have the money and influence to contradict him.

Critics of his who have moved abroad have been mysteriously assassinated.

Russian journalists who investigated his dealings have been mysteriously assassinated.

He has made a mockery of the RF constitution by installing a figurehead president who agreed beforehand to name him prime minister.

If this happened in any Western country it would be called by its proper name: fascism.

“Some things just don’t work well as joke material, such as saying that setting fire to U.S. Embassies “isn’t a bad option”. The burning of our embassy in Belgrade was an outrageous and intolerable attack against the United States.”

“...for the record, I’m no Serb hater. One of my best friends is a Serbian-American.”

Then ask him which attack was truly the outrageous, intolerable one. Was it hundreds of centuries old churches being burned to the ground under the UN’s “watchful eye”....perhaps Serbia being bombed relentlessly for over two months causing the deaths of God knows how many innocent civilians, for doing nothing more than finally reacting and defending themselves from decades of harassment and instigation by militant Muslims...maybe the conditions of the remaining Serbs in Kosovo, lives forever destroyed, looking at the desecrated graveyards of their former loved ones through a barbwire fence? Or your choice, the burning down of an evacuated building that represented the one country that made all those previous actions possible. I have a gut feeling he’s not going to see eye-to-eye with you on this.

Human Rights Watch says 489. The Serbian government reported 528.

Of those numbers, approximately 100 were Albanians, not Serbs.

The bombing campaign lasted 78 days and involved 1031 military aircraft flying a total of more than 38,000 sorties.

Ahh, I see....small potatoes compared to the US embassy being torched. How many Americans were killed in that event, according to Human Rights Watch?

I’m not defending what they did by any means, but after what we did to them, IMO, their reaction was relatively mild. Had anybody actually been in that embassy, I’m betting it would not have been touched outside of maybe a few broken windows. My point being Serbs don’t want to harm Americans. They aided us before in WWI and WWII, and as ridiculous as it sounds at this point in time, I think they would again.

And in regards to those numbers you mentioned...after visiting Serbia and seeing firsthand the destruction those bombings caused, unless there were 2 or 3 people living in each of those large apartment complexes, another 2 or 3 on the main bridges that went down, 1 or 2 guys working in those huge industrial and military buildings...that number is waaaaay off. If you don’t believe me, go there and see for yourself. Most of those buildings (or what’s left of them) still exist.
