Montgomery's Finest Won't Pay Fines [speed cameras Maryland]
Washington Post ^ | March 8, 2008 | Ernesto LondoƱo

Among the thousands of drivers who have been issued $40 fines after being nabbed by Montgomery County's new speed cameras are scores of county police officers. The difference is, many of the officers are refusing to pay.

The officers are following the advice of their union, which says the citations are issued not to the driver but to the vehicle's owner -- in this case, the county.

That view has rankled Police Chief J. Thomas Manger and County Council Member Phil Andrews (D-Gaithersburg-Rockville), who chairs the Public Safety Committee.

"You can't have one set of laws for police officers and another one for the rest of the world," Andrews said.

In recent weeks, officers have twice been photographed speeding past a camera and extending a middle finger, an act that police supervisors interpreted as a gesture of defiance. "There is no excuse for that kind of behavior," said Andrews, who was briefed on the incidents.

Right.

I thought it was called professional courtesy.

Writing tickets is about collecting revenue from from the civilians, not each other.

Another reason Unions and Lwyers should be looked upon with distain.

These are the supporters of the Democratic Party (the renamed Communist Party).

Remember, Lenin and Stalin had their elites who did not have to follow the rules of the common man, just like our Senators and Congressmen.

It is time to replace them all.

Why don’t we replace them with some kind of robot that follows the constitution without deviating instead of them putting robots(cameras) out to watch and fine us for small deviations.
Whose country is it anymore?
What happened to of by and for the people?
It’s turning into of by and for the politicians?
Are we a nation of good people or just a nation of laws?

We have become a nation of sheep.

The current generations have never known true adversity, no Depression, no Resession, no real war where people were required to sacrifice for the common good.

We are a lost people looking for someone to take care of us.

I love heading out into the woods everyyear for 14 days so I can reaffirm I will survive the coming fall.

I have taught my son this same necessity.

I agree with this statement, but I get the feeling that this County Council member is only saying this now because the refusal to pay is cutting into this revenue-enhancement project.

Laws are for the little people.

The Annointed Ones, from the Montgomery County Gestapo all the way up to Hillary, never follow the endless laws they impose on us.

That finger is directed at you and me.

Very few police will ticket another police officer, retired police officer, a police officer from another state, a retired police officer from another state, an FBI agent, and so on. Some times this courtesy is applied to MPs.
It is partly a matter of reciprocity and considered one of the perks of being in law enforcement.

Is it right? Since I’m not a police officer, I don’t think so. It’s probably better than letting a fellow officer get away with murder or blaming a crime on some innocent as has occurred.

I think actions speak louder than words, and their actions show a complete lack of morals.

Giving their friends a pass while telling a stranger that the "law is meant for everyone", shows contempt for those they claim to be serving.

Perfect! I’m so sick and tired of these *better-than-thou* cops who break speeding laws [often going no where of import], constantly with a cell phone stuck to their ear [while it is unlawful for an ordinary citizen to do so] ... fire ‘em all.
