It is all liberal claptrap but it should be a good experience, a lot of kids get this experience by camping with Dad and they don’t ask for donations.

They should have given them all guns and told them to hunt for their food.
Plus a coupon good for a free MadDog 20/20 or NightTrain.

Why don't they invite some real homeless people to live in these students' dorm rooms, or in the homes of the professors behind this project? That would give those homeless people a place to stay and would give the students & professors a real world experience with the homeless and what they are really like.
BTW, there's a funny French film from way back in 1931 called Boudu Saved From Drowning. A well-to-do academic type man looks out the window of his fashionable riverside apartment and sees a homeless man drowning. He rescues him, and generously invites him to live with him for a while. The man's high society wife and friends are appalled, but the rich man is bored and finds the homeless man entertaining. The homeless man continues to act like a slob. Even so, the rich man insists on keeping him around, being socially committed to improving the life of one of society's less fortunate. But the homeless man eventually falls in the river (on purpose) and fakes a drowning so he can escape and go back to living on the streets again, which he prefers.
They ought to show that film on college campuses instead of An Inconvenient Truth or Bowling for Columbine.

"They will have to survive on donations and must sleep outside unless temperatures plunge low enough to put their health at risk." Clearly the best way to help the homeless is to contribute to global warming.

Excellent post.
The reason why homeless people are homeless is because the last friend or relative who was willing to put up with their mental illness or drug abuse finally said: "Enough!"

"BTW, there's a funny French film from way back in 1931" I believe it was remade also in the late 50s early 60s. (IIRC)

Perhaps you should join them...? No, braak should NOT join them in a pointless endeavor.
But those feel-gooders could read about not sounding a trumpet before giving alms as do other hypocrits, or perhaps about noisy gongs or clanging cymbals. Doing such does not help to avoid the fate of the "rich man," which is a separate lesson altogether.
To: Larry Lucido
No, if they REALLY want to experience what many homeless experience, they should:
1) drop out of school and alientate all their relations
2) develop an uncontrollable addiction to alcohol or some other substance
3) get a mental illness
THEN maybe they can say they walked in the shoes of the so-called homeless.
I'll agree with that assessment.

Maybe it will convince the kids that homelessness is a thing to be avoided and get better grades?
