ALBANY - Gov. Eliot Spitzer has been caught on a federal wiretap arranging to meet with a high-priced prostitute at a Washington hotel last month, according to a person briefed on the federal investigation.
An affidavit in the federal investigation into a prostitution ring said that a wiretap recording captured a man identified as Client 9 on a telephone call confirming plans to have a woman travel from New York to Washington, where he had reserved a hotel room. The person briefed on the case identified Mr. Spitzer as Client 9.
Mr. Spitzer today made a brief public appearance during which he apologized for his behavior, and described it as a “private matter.”
“I have acted in a way that violates my obligation to my family and violates my or any sense of right or wrong,” said Mr. Spitzer, who appeared with his wife Silda at his Manhattan office. “I apologize first and most importantly to my family. I apologize to the public to whom I promised better.”
I wonder if Eliot was dumb enough to use his credit card.

This is how the Clintons treat any superdelegate who doesn't support them. And, oh by the way, the governor of NYS is a superdelegate.
The other superdelegates just got schooled on what the Clintons could do to them.

OK, here is how to really wrap that one up with tin foil. Hill has decided it is time to jettison Bill based on inside polling of the superdelegates, showing Hill/Bill will lose if it looks like he'd lurk at the White House. Hill grabbed this breaking NY scandal and got Bill's name inserted. Soon she will announce Bill's name came up and she is finally going to divorce him, hoping that dominates the news cycles until the convention. In order to make it look good, she also got Spitzer's name inserted, thus evening up that score and making this a twofer.
Looks likely.

They are trying to cooperate with the Feds to get lesser charges - and they delivered Spitzer the "Steamroller."

Authorities said the defendants arranged connections between wealthy men and more than 50 prostitutes in New York, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Miami, London and Paris. All four were charged with conspiracy to violate federal prostitution laws: Mark Brener, 62, and Cecil Suwal, 23, who live together in Cliffside Park, N.J.; Temeka Rachelle Lewis, 32, of Brooklyn; and Tanya Hollander, 36, of Rhinebeck, N.Y. Brener, accused of being the leader and recruiter of the prostitutes, and Suwal, accused of controlling the operation's bank accounts, also were charged with conspiracy to launder more than $1 million in illicit proceeds.
That would be an interesting defense, naked investment advice.
