Bush says border solution includes swinging door

The solution to security issues on the United States' border with Mexico will need to include some sort of swinging door so that workers can come and go as they want, according to a spokeswoman for the White House.

The response came from spokeswoman Dana Perino, who answered a question from Les Kinsolving, WND's correspondent at the White Hosue.

He asked:

"Reuters reports that our Customs and Border Protection Commissioner admits that the U.S. may not meet the goal of essentially stopping illegal immigration from Mexico by 2011. And my question: What does the president believe would help most in this effort, more border security personnel, more miles of border fence, or more enforcement of immigration regulations nationwide?"

"The president thinks that all of those issues are important, but he would add another measure, which is a temporary worker program so that we could have a legal mechanism for people who want to cross the border and work in America, but also want to go back home," she said.

The Reuters report cited an admission from Ralph Basham, commissioner of the U.S. Customers and Border Protection, who said in 2005 the government projected having "operational control" of the border within five years.

However, in testimony before Congress, he said the Secure Border Initiative included several assumptions, and some of those underlying events have not happened.

The president thinks that all of those issues are important, but he would add another measure, which is a temporary worker program so that we could have a legal mechanism for people who want to cross the border and work in America, but also want to go back home," she said.

Temporary worker program is euphemistic spin meaning amnesty for illegal aliens!

Officials also said the "virtual fence" that has been built along a 28-mile section of the border in Arizona has been delayed by technical problems, and opposition from landowners along the border also is delaying plans for 670 miles of fencing.

The virtual fence is a frace. We has legislation to build a double fence but that was nixed by COngress thanks to Kay Baily Hutchison. Congressman Duncan Hunter has intoruduced H.R.5124 that will restore the requiirement to build a double fence. It's time to call Congress folks and elet them know, again to reject amnesty for illegal aliens. The toll free number is 1-800-965-4701.

One problem is the door doesn’t swing the other way for Americans. When will our “kings” start pressing for our rights in Mexico.

Sure those temporary workers can’t leave the family can they. More babies born here mean these guys will never leave. If I have to hear for from my teacher wife about the kids who can’t speak English taking away valuable time from other kids, I’ll go crazy.

Dear Mr. President,

There are lots of issues we could discuss, including a temp program for folks wanting to work here, but not become citizens.

Unfortunately, I’m not in the mood to discuss anything until I see more enforcement first.

People who advocate a Virtual Fence will universally say that we have “too much” illegal immigration. This means, of course, that they think there is another, lower, level of illegal immigration that is “just right”. A virtual fence allows the government to monitor the border to permit an fixed rate of illegal immigration and stop illigal immigration when it exceeds that rate. Illegal immigration can be adjusted to the “just right” level.

Proponents of a Fence Fence, OTOH, take the position that all illegal immigration is a problem, and that control of the border means control of the border, which is to say that all illegal crossings are prevented. The “just right” level of illegal immigration is zero.

"When will our “kings” start pressing for our rights in Mexico."

Who the HELL wants to go to that Turd World Country anyhow? It's a cesspool of inept governance and anti-American sentiment.

I do, however, see the double standard here...

I actually would love to own some coastal land in Mexico. It also has great hunting in the central parts and great ranchland. Maybe a few hundred thousand freaking Americans with some drive could turn that country around too.

Mexico has abundant resources, beautiful tourist spots, good agricultural land and corrupt government officials who sell out to druglords. For our politicians to focus on their immigrants is absurd when really taking over Mexico, giving its people property rights and eliminating the drug cartels would turn Mexico into paradise.

No sh!t. I am sick of that line of crap meant to persuade the ignorant. We have that and have for decades. Illegals don’t want to do it that way.

Hate to rain on your parade my friend, but your wife is absolutely correct. In my first teaching assignment I had to deal with a large, non-English speaking population who seriously detracted from my ability to give the "average" and "gifted" students the attention they deserved. It was a very sad state of affairs, hence the reason I resigned at the end of the year and moved out of the area.

The simple fact is that the people claimung to need more guest workers don’t want them here legally anyway. Legal guest workers cost just as much as Americans. They just want to flood the country with the “guests” so we never know how many are here illegally.

“some sort of swinging door so that workers can come and go as they want”

And while we’re at it, a clinic and post-office just across the border so mamacitas
can drop their ninos and then leave a Mexican forwarding address for their checks.

Unless McCain has an epiphany and sees that he is really wrong about immigration (and that would be a miracle), in 2009 we will have another open-borders POTUS, no matter who wins. Makes me sick.

If these RINOs and Dems run the USA into the ground, other powers will step in to fill the power void, and those who sold us out might not like what they will see. We can keep the bad guys from taking over in Iraq and Afghanistan, but meanwhile, China is getting very strong, thanks to foolish trade policies, and lack of will to do anything about it. Not to mention Russia, Iran....

Add to that “our” government’s stubborn push to surrender to Mexico. “Swinging door” indeed!

I used to think Jimmy Carter was the worst President of my lifetime. It’s at least a dead heat for that honor at this point, but I have faith that Dubya can take the prize away.

It seems the White House has forgotten who this country belongs to. I think who comes into this country should be subject to our laws. No swinging door!! Insanity.
