Sen. Craig's Lawyers Appeal in Sex Case

Saint Paul, Minn. (AP) -- Attorneys for U.S. Senator Larry Craig are asking the Minnesota Court of Appeals to correct a "manifest injustice" by allowing the Idaho Republican to withdraw his guilty plea stemming from an airport restroom sex sting.

In court papers filed Tuesday, the lawyers asked the appellate judges to reverse the trial court's decision to let stand Craig's guilty plea to a disorderly conduct charge. They also asked the court to vacate his plea.

Craig was arrested in June in a restroom stall at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport during a broad sweep targeting men soliciting sex. An undercover officer said Craig tapped his feet and swiped his hand under a stall divider in a way that signaled he wanted sex.

After news of his arrest and plea became public in August, Craig denied wrongdoing. He insisted his actions were misconstrued and said he wasn't gay. He said he pleaded guilty and paid a fine hoping to resolve the matter quietly.

He later tried to withdraw his guilty plea, but a Hennepin County judge refused.

Larry Craig was arrested for having a wide stance and tapping his foot. Was he tapping out a message in code? Nah, he a Republican so he has to be guilty of something sordid right? s/

Craig had his chance to deny wrongdoing. He plead guilty. He should resign now. End of story.

Craig, you’re just another corrupt politician and you should leave. Your career is over. Fact it, you’re the poster child for the free-love homosexuals. Ugh!

This guy is a disgrace. Why can’t we just force him out? Even Karl Rove said yesterday he promised to leave and broke his promise and he doesn’t belong in Congress.

This douchebag all by himself is giving ALL SOCIAL CONSERVATIVES a bad name and making all look like hypocrites. I can’t believe this is still going.

We would get another Conservative Republican from Idaho. We don’t need this low life idiot.

So let me get this straight, he pleads guilty because he’s stupid enough to think he’s going to slip under the radar, gets caught, wants to take back said guilty plea, and yet there has been a “manifest injustice?”

Huh?

Ironically, the word “manifest” comes from Latin “manifestus” which means “caught in the act.”

How appropriate.

Craig is such a nice guy to hang around and let the DBM and Rats use him to divert attention from Spitzer.

No, he was arrested for tapping his foot against the foot of the man in the adjoining stall, then reaching underneath the divider towards the other man several times in the established manner of gay cruisers.

Nah, he a Republican so he has to be guilty of something sordid right?

If he wasn't guilty, he wouldn't have stood before the judge and said "Yes, I'm guilty."

If Craig were a Democrat, his followers would be sporting “Larry Craig was railroaded” T-shirts.

Just think, if this loser had resigned last year like he said he would, the media wouldn't have this card to play.

Hey Larry---RESIGN!

If he would resign now, his successor would have 9 months to gain seniority and represent the state.

Craig was also one of the disgraceful senators who voted against the Cornyn amendment, which would have established a permanent bar for gang members, terrorists, and other criminals looking to snag a shamnesty visa. Republicans underlined:

Yeah, of course. Watch the MSM now start to give us live updates on what’s happening with Larry Craig. Nobody thought of the guy, or cares about him, but the MSM will work feverishly to bring in a Republican to mute the whole Spitzer thing.

Craig is charged in a sex case where there was no sex. Just like with Mark Foley. Yet somehow the GOP lost its majority in Congress because he sent a few suggestive emails. Unreal.
