Obama fury over Clinton backer Ferraro's race remark

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Barack Obama's White House campaign lashed out in fury Tuesday after a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter attributed his stunning march through US politics to his race.

Obama aide Susan Rice called for Clinton to fire Geraldine Ferraro, the only woman yet to run on a major party's presidential ticket, after her comments Friday to a Los Angeles newspaper.

"That's a really outrageous and offensive comment," Rice said on MSNBC television after Ferraro, who sits on Clinton's finance committee, had said: "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position."

Does anyone really think that Obama would be in the middle of the Dem Presidential race if he were a white man?

Sure.

A white man who is merely a junior Senator half way through his first term whose only prior experience has been as a State Legislator?

No way.

—I firmly believe that this country (and the world) will not survive either of these Democrats in the White House for four to eight years.—

That’s a bit over the top.

—If you think we can let them win now, and then ride some “backlash” into victory the next time, you’re sorely mistaken.—

Why. Carter “backlashed” us into Reagan; Clinton (thanks to his sex scandals, mostly) “backlashed” us into Dubya (for better or worse).

—The last time they had control, it took almost 50 years to get it back (then we lost it, but that’s another story). —

You are talking about control of *Congress*. That has little or nothing to do with who wins the White House. The pubbies are going to lose 4 or 5 seats (depending on Mary Landrieu) at least, no matter who wins the White House. We’re going to lose a bunch of House seats, too. A lot of GOP resignations, disastisfaction over the economy will see to that. Hastert’s seat in IL just went Dem in a special election! A bad omen, indeed.

— Sorry your “guy” didn’t make it (whomever that that was), but that’s politics.—

Eff dat. The lesser of two evils is still evil, and I’ve had enough of it.

I saw a suggestion posted on FR about ten days ago that made a lot of sense. Now is a good time for McCain to get together with some high-powered economists and businessmen, and put together a POSITIVE economic platform. One that does not directly attack the dems, but is clearly different from them. (Might I suggest a conservative platform then?) He needs to get it out in front of cameras and beat it like a drum. Right now the American people need a leader with a plan on the economy, not back-biting.

One of their big supporters sat on the sunday talk shows and said that she was unqualified to be president, and that being married to a president wasn’t a “qualification”...

It used to be said that sleeping with a President didn't qualify one for being President. In HIllary's case, she doesn't even have that...

I remember seeing Bill and Hill sleeping at Reagan's funeral, and thinking that was probably the first time they'd slept together in years.

OBAMA needs to make as much hay as possible out of the Ferrarro remark, but to not carry it too far lest he appear to be uber-fragile and ill tempered. That gets into Hillary territory - ill tempered.

Obamaniacs can’t have it both ways. Either he is a post-racial transformational candidate, and they must ignore quips like Ferraro’s, or he is “The Black Candidate” for whom such phony outrage is to be expected...

Maybe not...but the queen of outrage, the promotor and beneficiary of the politics of victimization has no leg to stand on, either.

Pass the popcorn, please.

Hillary is not going to bend over at the alter of Obama and apologize like Mccain does.

McCain will come out and apologize for this anyway -- he can't help himself as political correctness czar. It pains him to see Barak's feelings hurt.

Ferraro’s remark may not be racist, but it pushes the envelope. Kind of sounds like the white guy whining “the only reason *he* got the job is because he/she is (fill in the blank)” If Obama is smart, he’ll let his underlings use her remark as a talking point, but stay above it all.

Hmmmm, I thought he was running the kinder, gentler, softer kind of campaign. LOL!

Mondale didn’t have much choice. NOW told him he had to pick a woman for VP, and he had to comply. Mrs. Zaccaro evidently was less unqualified than any of the others he considered.

I think it's time to overthrow the PC version of white guilt.

I never owned slaves. I have never not hired somebody because of the color of their skin. I will not stop speaking the truth!

"That’s a bit over the top"
.
That's me!!! Once you've been here more than a week, you'll come to know that. Save your ammo.

"Eff dat. The lesser of two evils is still evil, and I’ve had enough of it".

So....you would thus opt for.... what?? The greater of two evils?? You do realize we are talking about politics here, right?

Selection of the lesser of two evils is the essence of politics. Unless one is a groupie rather than a constituent (see Clinton, William J., and/or Obama, Barak) one never finds the perfect candidate. It's always a compromise.

As for the rest: I'd much rather have a Republican Congress and White House (or, as you put it "pubbie", perhaps you are a lurker/troll).

Does anyone really think that Obama would be in the middle of the Dem Presidential race if he were a white man? Of course not

Nor would what's-'er-name be in the middle of the Dem Presidential race if she wasn't married to what's-'is-name.

Both those facts should be the lead story on the 5 o'clock news.

Hopefully I’m the real deal. And I use shorthand sometimes when referring to the “two” parties. I hope to have a *conservative* (a term I never use slang for)
White House and Congress; the tea leaves, chicken entrails etc. don’t look to good for Congress. That Hastert seat was rock-ribbed; I never expected that seat to go dhimmi.

Ferraro is right about Obama, but she neglected to mention that if Hillary wasn’t Bill’s wife, she wouldn’t be in her position either.

That’s why these attacks they throw at each other have no impact, just the the “he lacks experience” attack, because they are both woefully undeserving and unqualified.
