Gov. Deval Patrick is preparing to launch a task force to target companies that are using illegal workers to pad their profits and deprive the state of tens of millions of dollars in tax revenues, officials said.
Administration sources said the task force will focus on tightening enforcement of employment laws that are routinely being ignored by firms in multiple sectors of the economy.
An untold number of Bay State companies employ illegal immigrant workers as part of a practice that has become an increasing drain on state tax revenues. Illegal workers are prevalent in restaurants, the homebuilding industry, hospitality services and landscaping.

Taxachusets. Can’t believe I’m saying this, but Texas should follow their lead. If nothing else to fight them because of high taxes.
Governor Telletubbie cannot even get beyond “undocumented worker” doublespeak. Something about this premise rings untrue, he’s desperately trying to bring gambling to this state to solve our fiscal woes. Can’t get the Herald page to load but personally, I don’t believe one word that mentally challenged dweeb has to say.
10’s of millions? How about 100’s of millions or more?
Yup; blow me down indeed.
I wonder how come all of a sudden they figured illegals were icky?
He is pushing this gambling thing as if it was the answer to all of our prayers.
That’s where we should put them after we round them up. Plenty of illegals in Hyannis.
Must be the lost revenue. It’s for sure not the crime factor or the schools.
From a financial point of view, they figured out that illegals cost a lot more in tax dollar expenditures than they generate in tax revenue. They have a budget to wrestle with.
From a political point of view, this is purely opportunistic. Patrick thinks this posturing will get him a few points in the polls. Otherwise, he would have never done anything of the type.
Not from MA, butI thought I read recently that the black community was rather restive about the crime and takeovers in their communities. It could also be about votes, although the tax revenues certainly ring true as a reason.
Perhaps this signals that the elites know they are not going to legalize enough illegals to make up for other donk special interest voters.
I can’t seem to access the original article. Are you sure the link is correct?
I think you guys have it nailed---it's the revenue issue. I, for one, am having a ball watching Deval struggle so desperately to govern the state, after campaigning on these lofty, Obama-esque sugar cookies. It's wonderful when politicians discover that doing a job is very different from campaigning for a job.
Yeah, the link was ok this morning, but it seems the site is having problems now. I first saw the article last night.
He still supports giving the illegals drivers licenses and in-state tuition rates for state colleges.
Los Angeles’Mayor of the Mexicans, Tony Villar, announced plans today to deal with serious city budget shortfalls. The Mayor announced (as Arnold did recently on a State level) that “everything was on the table”. But there are some things that never seem to be on the table.
Twenty five cent parking meters he announced should be $1.00. There has to be cuts, we must get rid of city provided automobiles. There has to be new “revenue streams”. “Everything is on the table’ proclaimed the Mayor of the Mexicans, over and over. Of course like the Governor, he never mentions the phrase “new taxes”.
Like the Governors plan, not quite everything is on the table. There was no mention of the vast numbers of workers here illegally and legally who work under the table. This fact of course will not be part of “everything is on the table.
The company’s that employ them will not be part of the equation when everything is on the table.
We are getting killed supporting these invaders and their kids and again they will not be part of the solution. The law abiding taxpayer will just be forced to pay more and more.
Ah so... he just doesn't want them working... or if they are working, he wants to make sure they and the companies they work for are paying taxes. Now that's the Gov we all know.
The link won’t open now, maybe they pulled it. It’s a short article.
Hey, before getting too euphoric about this, look at the reason. It isn’t because they are illegal and committing crimes by being here. It is because they are committing the ultimate sin in Taxachusettes...avoiding paying taxes!
The whole article reads:

The governor is expected to announce creation of the task force at the annual conference of the Massachusetts Building Trades Council. Union construction organizers have been extremely active in fighting the use of illegal immigrant workers in the building trades.
