WASHINGTON (AP) - The head of the Southern California slaughterhouse at the center of the largest beef recall in U.S. history acknowledged Wednesday that cattle were illegally slaughtered at his plant and that cows too sick to stand were forced into the food supply.
Westland/Hallmark Meat Co. President Steve Mendell made the admissions after a congressional panel forced him to watch undercover video of abuses of cattle at his plant. Mendell watched head-in-hand as cows were dragged by chains, jabbed by forklifts and shocked to get them into the box where they'd be slaughtered.

How many people has he sent to an early grave without their even knowing it.
The financial incentives have not changed since the Jungle. It should therefore not surprise anyone that unscrupulous individuals who think that they can avoid detection would break the law to make larger profits.
Wonderful! They sold that meat in NM too. Unfortunately, some of our schools still had some of the meat when the recall went out. Once they found out about it, they disposed of it, but it makes you wonder how much of it any of us within their delivery area might have eaten. The biggest problem won’t show up for a while. IF it was tainted with Mad Cow Disease, it could kill a bunch of people, later on down the road.
What are the odds, that the crime committing employees at this slaughter house are illegal immigrants hired off of street corners each week — and unable to comprehend English instructions or English guidelines for their job????
I’d bet granny’s rum bearing cow that illegal aliens and profit driven management led to way to this disaster — with little care for the responsibility to the public......
