Noticeably absent in this thread is the honest concession that the Mexican immigrants who reproduce with Catholic premises offer more hope for American culture than their Islamic counterparts in Europe.

Muslim culture brings with it the risk of Sharia law which shreds basic notions of human autonomy common to our Constitution.

Immigration and its consequent reproduction in the US is a massive lifeboat that will lift the US above almost all other world cultures. China and Europe will soon be crushed by aging populations while immigration and population growth provide America with resources to manage the aging crisis better than most other nations.

Somebody gets it.

Secular socialism is a disease of the soul that ultimately results in the destruction of any civilization where it is the primary ideology.

On the other hand, us Jesus-freaks love kids. Got 5 of them myself and I can't promise you I'm done yet...

Immigrants on welfare reproduce at a high rate, because kids are free The European middle class does not reproduce because they are heavily taxed to pay for other people's kids The day of reckoning is coming very soon, when the number of middle-class taxpayers are not enough to support the welfare state

Agreed. The gov't competes with children for dollars. There is only so much dough to go around. The higher the tax rate, the faster the country kills itself. Immigration slows the decline in the short run but brings other problems.

And I don’t think it’s because they’re believers, I think it’s because most of them have never heard of how to use birth control and they screw like rabbits.

You keep thinking that.

"If you do not believe in your own stock enough to see the stock kept up, then you are not good Americans, you are not patriots, and ... I for one shall not mourn your extinction; and in such event I shall welcome the advent of a new race that will take your place, because you wil have shown that you are not fit to cumber the ground." --Teddy Roosevelt, 1911, before a group of liberal theologians

This is a good thing since as a result of centuries of inbreeding, most Europeans are bone ugly.

I have some Lutheran friends in Germany with 5 kids...and no twins. Of course they are part of the free, independent, conservative evangelical Lutheran church (not the state church)—in communion with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (VERY conservative) here in the USA. NONE of their friends have as many kids, and they are considered odd for that.

It's not just Europeans; for instance, I have two sister-in-laws that declined reproduction and both stated the same reasons: money and time.

Translation--selfishness. That's what it always comes down to.

Bingo. I've said this, too. It's true even in the US -- the heavily taxed producers do not reproduce as heartily as the underclass. If you have to invest time and money in your education, it is understandable to start a family afterwards. If someone else is footing the bill--why wait, why worry?

I live in Oviedo, Florida and know many such Lutherans that you know as well.

Regarding your friend in Europe, they will remain a minority with their large families unfortunately. Unless of course, the Muslims have their way.

Flame away PC's ( and I'm not talking computers! )

Hey, there's an idea. Convence RATS not to reproduce!

So far, I haven't seen any country come up with an answer.

More small business might be a good place to start. People used to have kids to help with farm work, so I don't see why a family business couldn't have the kids help out.

Personally, I think it’s the failure to bathe regularly, use deodorant, and shave armpit hair that keeps the birth rate low . . . .

You may be partly right.

They are better than free. They are profit centers.

Sometimes its just better to be silent. That way people keep wondering whether you are an idiot, but are never certain.

In the US, large families are common in the middle part of the country, and on the coasts in families who indicate a religious affiliation.

Its logical to believe the same correlation exists in Europe. It isn’t exactly Borneo, after all.

You should see our little Catholic parish — it’s packed with big families. The back pews of the church are full of babies during mass! The two biggest families in our parish have eight and seven little ‘uns (with one on the way) respectively, and there are other families of slightly smaller size that are still growing. (The average family size in our parish is around five, I’d guess.) Mrs. Chan and myself have a one-year-old son now, and are planning on having at least two more children, should God grant us the privilege.

I don’t want to hear about how people cannot afford children. My maternal grandfather and grandmother were sharecroppers — SHARECROPPERS! — yet somehow managed to have twelve children. By living frugally, any number of dependents can be accomodated. Even with inflation, healthy food (beans, rice, fresh fruit and veg) is cheap; when there’s a guest, a visitor, or another mouth to feed, one just waters the stew down a little more and gets by.

Raising children isn’t an expense, it’s an investment. Those who are willing to sacrifice temporary fun (luxuries and material goods) can obtain a lifetime of satisfaction (the joy of family life).

There are large families in the US who are Christians and/or patriotic Americans.

However, if you take out immigration, the facts are that we do have a negative birthrate.
