When Liberals Attack...Liberals

Poor Geraldine Ferraro. For simply stating what she believed to be true, many of her fellow Democrats and the liberal intelligentsia are impugning her very character and even her mental well-being.

What sin did she commit that has the defenders of political correctness up in arms? She was honest enough to say what many in Washington have been whispering for months. In a recent newspaper interview, Mrs. Ferraro said, "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."

Horrors. Apparently, for many liberal cable hosts, reporters and pundits, raising the possibility that Barack Obama might be an affirmative-action candidate was just too much to bear. One well-known left-leaning journalist went so far as to try and excuse and explain Mrs. Ferraro's comment by saying, "She has not been well lately. She's been very sick and on medication."

Meaning, of course, that the only people in Washington who would ever dare speak the truth would have to be on mind-altering drugs. That, or we have to accept the sleazy inference from this liberal reporter that Mrs. Ferraro is somehow mentally incapacitated.

Along with her refreshingly candid assessment of Mr. Obama's meteoric rise in the national polls, Mrs. Ferraro was also quick to point out and admit that if her name had been "Gerald" instead of "Geraldine," she never would have been picked as Walter Mondale's running mate in 1984. So, for much of the liberal media, it's okay if she tells the truth and admits that she was an affirmative-action pick, but should she apply the same logic to Mr. Obama, she needs to be shouted down, vilified and denied her First Amendment rights.

Not only is this liberal reaction to Mrs. Ferraro wrong, but it's also two-faced and opportunistic. Over the course of the last several months, I have spoken with a number of liberal Democrats and members of the media in Washington who have echoed the very words of Mrs. Ferraro. All have expressed the same doubts or asked the same question with regard to Mr. Obama and his frontrunner status. That being, "If he were a white man who had just come out of a state legislature and had basically just one year of experience in the United States Senate, would anyone be pushing him to run for president?"

Reasonable people can certainly debate the issue. What people can't do — and what the far left has done to Republicans for years — is to subjectively play the race card for partisan gain. Surely, Mrs. Ferraro deserves better from her party and her fellow liberals. Surely, she has earned the right to offer an opinion without being viciously attacked by those who have wondered the exact same thing.

To be sure, surrogates of Hillary Clinton have shamelessly tried to use race against Mr. Obama. While some political pundits have contended that the Clinton campaign commercial that breathlessly stated, "It's 3a.m. and your children are safe and asleep. But there's a phone in the White House and it's ringing. Something's happening in the world... Who do you want answering the phone?" helped her win the Texas primary, people I have spoken with in the state say something entirely different.

They give some of the credit for Mrs. Clinton's victory to the racist message implied by the photo allegedly released by someone from her campaign of Mr. Obama dressed in traditional Somali attire — a photo released to feed the rumor that Mr. Obama is really a Muslim.

With that theme in mind, former Sen. Bob Kerrey, another Clinton supporter, had previously stated, "I like the fact that his name is Barack Hussein Obama, and that his father was a Muslim... I think it is a tremendous asset for him... that he spent a little bit of time in a secular madrassa."

For those still not picking up on the theme or the fear-mongering, Mrs. Clinton herself was more than willing to wade into the mud. When asked recently on "60 Minutes" if she believed Mr. Obama to be a Muslim, she offered a weak denial before sneaking in, "No... as far as I know."

Message received, Hillary. You and your team have zero problem playing the race/Muslim card. We get it. But that is not to say that everyone on your team is willing to follow suit.

Mrs. Ferraro did not invoke Mr. Obama's middle name. She did not mention the words "Muslim," or "madrassa." She did not circulate a photo meant to draw a racist conclusion, but she still had to resign from the Clinton campaign.

All she did is openly say what much of official Washington thought. And for that, the liberal hate machine has gone after her with a vengeance. Shocking.

IF Hillary were a man she would not be in her position. To make matters worse if she was not married to Bill Clinton she would not be in the position she is in. She could never have gotten this far on her own merit.

Not trying to spam, but I think this is relevant to this thread and it is what I posted to another Freeper regarding Geraldine's comments on Obama.

"I have been thinking some more on Geraldine's comment about Obama. And regarding how he got where he is today, she is wrong.

I accept her underlying premise that there are females and minorities who got where they are today because of race and gender, and not because of ability or merit. I accept that there are hundreds of thousands of people, if not millions, who were passed over for hiring and promoting who were much more qualified than the people who got the job or promotion.

Here though, I disagree with Geraldine and I will bring up Condoleeza Rice in a discussion of Obama. It is possible that at some point in their lives, Obama and Rice could have benefitted from affirmative action policies. That being said, IMO, it is not possible that either of them got where they are solely because of race or gender. While I hope Obama's campaing ends up on the trash heap of history, I believe that he is very intelligent and would have succeeded in many other ventures.

Hillary, on the other hand, is a moron. She achieved what she did because of her gender, and who she married. And being a leftist who follows Saul Alinsky, the ruthlessness of his philosophy has also helped her a lot.

Now as to who got what or where they ended up, both Hillary and Geraldine have been huge supporters of affirmative action and quotas and entitlements. But now, someone has arrived on the scene who is stating in essence - "I'm entitled." Their response? "Yeah, you're entitled, but not against US!"

And one more little thing about Obama. Remember when Trent Lott was excoriated for saying he thought Strom Thurmond would have been a great President? Well, Obama needs to have the same thing dished out to him. His preacher buddy used the mantle of Christianity to preach a message of hate against whites, and to curse America. He used the pulpit to perform an obscene performance of Bill Clinton having sex with Monica. Obama should be held accountable for this. But you know something else? This is a church with a pastor preaching hate against whites, hatred of America, with a dash low class porn. No doubt this is a Democrat church. Bill and Hillary would feel quite at home there."

The reaction to Mrs. Ferraro’s comments and the party’s treatment of her is not at all surprising. Any time a dem/lib displays a glimpse of thinking for themselves or even hints at the truth they are attacked by their own.

Two one term Senators are running for President. If Hillary had Obama’s gender and Obama had Hillary's complexion, they would have just been John Edwards without the silky hair.

Its a truth. Liberals can't handle the truth.

Being two-faced and opportunistic are but two of the many "qualities" of liberals. Why is this guy surprised?

I also love the quandary Obama's rise has put the left in: they insist that this country is overwhelmingly racist to the core, yet a black man is leading their primary race. And now someone comes out and says that it's BECAUSE he's black that he's winning.

This is the most enjoyable primary season in my entire lifetime. If the dimwits railroad Obama and he doesn't get the nomination in spite of winning more states, more individual votes, and more delegates, the dimwit party will be exposed as the racists that they are and always have been. If he DOES get the nomination, then the race-hustling dimwit party will have lost a huge talking point in their disingenuous and self-serving crusade against the supposed racism of this country.

Seems like a win-win to me.

Poor Geraldine (Gerry, if you’re writing resignation letters to Hillary).

She’s been throwing verbal hand grenades for years, when appearing on the news.

Only this time she fumbled it and it fell in her lap. Her beloved liberals had pulled the pin and it went off before she could figure where to toss it.

RIP, Gerry. I won’t be missing you on Fox or CNN or any of the others. Cynthia McKinney will get more air time than you.

That is their whole platform in a nutshell. Their entire political philosophy is based on lies and falsehoods, and they do not dare allow any “mainstream” source to say that the king has no clothes.

Ferraro didn’t say that he got to where he is solely because of race. Obviously he meets the Constitutional requirements for the role of President. He is intelligent and demonstrates considerable political skill.

But how does he differ from Edwards in these regard? If experience is a qualification, then at least Edwards completed a full term in the Senate. Would Edwards get an endorsement from Oprah? Would he have gotten 90% of the black vote in the primaries if Obama hadn’t been in the race?

This isn’t a case of affirmative action, it is just a sentimental form of racial preference that lets liberals demonstrate their open-mindedness. And there is a subset of Democrats who automatically vote for someone simply because he or she is a particular race.

I do agree that Obama couldn’t have gotten where he did solely because of race. Being black has helped him. And I think that if he were white, he would have had the same results as Edwards.

Secular madrassa. I'll have to add that to my list of oxymorons along with ethical lawyer, honest DemocRAT, peaceful muslim and sober Kennedy.
