“Martha Nussbaum is a professor of law and ethics at the University of Chicago.”

Ethics? What a joke.

• Martha Nussbaum is a professor of law and ethics at the University of Chicago.

Why is it these 'ethics' types are usually the most immoral dogs out there?

Hey Martha, regardless of the law or what he did to his family, it’s a question of integrity and character....traits that the leftists don’t see as a high priority given their candidates/politicians. If the man can lie to and to his family, what else has he lied about? Cheated on?

And this moron teaches ethics at UoC...un-friggin-believable.

Martha Nussbaum is an idiot. Spitzer was forced out not because of the sex but because he broke the law. Whatever one's views about prostitution, we've decided in our society its illegal and we expect people to respect the collective judgment of society. Then there's Spitzer's chutzpah in prosecuting prostitution rings and then patronizing one himself. Is this the kind of man the Democrats want to hold up a role model for the party? Nussbaum's jeremiad confirms the sickness that has been rotting away a party bereft of any standards for itself.

Where were the complaints about America puritanism when Spitzer was putting people in jail for being in the prostitution business?

And btw, what the hell makes Europe such a model of enlightenment, given the shape of Western civilization there.

Nussbaum has always been a lefty fembot kook.

wonder if she’s kin to Hedda?

that said....decriminalizing prostitution in areas that would like to by local cultural standards is probably ok for me in a controlled way

but that has little to do with Elliot’s transgressions which have yet to be fully disclosed....like use of public funds or transport is my guess

Since his behavior goes right to the heart of her specialty, law and ethics, maybe you might want to drop her a line: martha_nussbaum@law.uchicago.edu

The Dean of the Law School is Saul Levmore (s-levmore@uchicago.edu); he may be interested in hearing from you, too, as her comments reflect on the prestige of his faculty and university.

My parents emigrated from Europe and this behavior would have been condemned by any of our ancestors.

Prostitution is far from a victimless crime. It cost a powerful man his career. But Nussbaum is too full of herself to notice it.

That’s a good question. I guess today’s academia doesn’t care about integrity or competence as long as one sings the correct political tunes.

I actually support the legalization of discreet prostitution (as opposed to street walking).

But that doesn’t change the fact that Spitzer needs to pay heavily for breaking the law that he was so vigorous about enforcing as a prosecutor.

The Left no longer believes in right and wrong and in standards of excellence and decency. That's why it can defend low-lifes like Spitzer without qualm or shame.

Make prostitution a "legitimate" occupation and then you can lose unemployment benefits for refusing a "job".

Don't say it couldn't happen. This is gubmint we talkin' about.

Martha Nussbaum is a professor of law and ethics at the University of Chicago.

Sometimes the jokes just write themselves. And to believe she teaches! Although, school is in session and she says she's cavorting around the Eurozone. Probably another one of those who doesn't really teach.

My view is if consenting adults want to exchange their own money for sex in the privacy of their bedroom, they should be allowed to do so.

As for having a puritanical side, again - it wasn't the sex that bothered Americans as much as Spitzer's acting in a manner apposite the cause he championed throughout his career. You can't say prostitute is a scourge upon society and then make an exception for yourself.

That’s my worry. It’s already happened in Germany, where it is legal. Although I don’t know if it’s happened in Nevada, where it’s also legal in some places.
