Brazile: 'Wright One of the More Moderate Black Preachers'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 03/16/2008 12:00:42 PM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

How much trouble is Barack Obama in over the extremism of Jeremiah Wright? Enough that Dem strategist Donna Brazile has been reduced to arguing that as black preachers go, Wright is relatively moderate. Enough that the normally affable Brazile got a bit short with Time editor Mark Halperin, he of the infamous memo to his subordinates during the 2004 presidential campaign while serving as ABC News political director.

The comments came during the panel discussion on today's This Week with George Stephanopoulos on ABC.

The thing has Hillary's fingerprints all over it and this clown is blaming the Republicans.

Blamed for exposing the truth

What does it matter who did it

It matters. If it comes down to Obama or Hillary as President - I'd rather have Obama. Well, I'd rather have ANY Republican - but short of that - Obama.

I haven’t looked into his background, but what you said reminds me of all the super rich black athletes, entertainers and businessmen out there.

They made it in America while millions of whites are still stuggling. How is that POSSIBLE, if America is “run by rich white people” whose goal is to destroy blacks for racists reasons??

Answer...it isn’t.

DUH!

I think it must be enormously difficult for a child like that, because they are forced to “take a side.” The bizarre thing is that blacks are much more absolute about forcing mixed race kids to pick a side, and are much more up front about rejecting a white or Asian person as a spouse for their children. I think they should seriously examine their attitudes. But that would mean a little honesty, and nobody’s ever going to do that!

That’s what I was saying yesterday.....Rev Wright is a CON MAN - he’s lighter skinned than Obama, and probably most of his membership.....but, he’s filled them with hate and run to the bank with his profits....

I attended a wonderful black church in Portland. Nothing of the sort was said there. My very white Irish self was freely welcome, I wouldn’t dream of attending these other churches. Never was anything said about race like we see on these videos.

It’s shameful to pass them off as “standard” in the black community, just like few of us would claim Benny Hinn is standard in our churches.

If Obama is taken down by this association with Wright, this may drive a wedge between blacks and Democrats that will never be repaired.

Cannot agree that this is one of the more moderate. Not by any stretch. What it is: a straying from the personal purposes of salvation to societal interests, which is off the reservation of religion altogether and into the domain of the state.

Maybe Brazil is hearing the same anti-white and anti-American hate preaching at her church considering some of her past statements:

GORE'S BRAZILE: BUSH IS A 'WHITE CRACKER', 'I AM THE EIGHTH WONDER OF THE WORLD'

..and...

Meanwhile, Brazile, who was fired from the Dukakis ’88 campaign for spreading sex stories about President Bush, could be headed for new trouble with her freestyle method of campaigning.

...and...

BRAZILE … WILL NOT LET THE "WHITE BOYS" WIN. And that's not a description of "gender or race, it's an attitude. A white-boy attitude is 'I must exclude, denigrate and leave behind,' " Brazile says. "They don't see or think about it. It's a culture." It is the sense of utter entitlement. And that she will not have.

Maybe she would consider Rev. Jesse Peterson or Martin Luther King as radicals as they preached integration and not separatism.

Obama is toast.

And, thanks, Rush.

We could have had Hillary out of the way had you not told Republicans to cross over in Texas.

Then, as someone said above, Obama’s TITANIC campaign hits the iceberg, paving the way for McCain.

Now we are going to see Hillary and McCain. Again, thanks Rush. The cigar has exploded in your face.

I came in late to that show last Friday and didn’t know until now that those were OBAMA STAFFERS! Good grief!

Agree. Only when it involves the PIAPS will the MSM go out on a limb and imply "this is wrong" suddenly, after it's been going on for 45 years or more.

If Hussein was smart now, he'd start up a laundry list of Clinton scandals and really begin debating the sow.

I’ve been to many a beautiful church service in the black churches of Harrisburg, PA. There they preach the gospel of Love, and they exhibit in their actions.

Wright’s so-called church is an aberration. I believe it is a Communist-front-type organization.

I don’t doubt that she is correct. If so, that doesn’t speak well for black people in America.

Maybe things are different here in Alaska, but the ‘black’ churches here are most excellent and true to the spirit of Christianity. Energetic, too.

This is bullcrap. My church is predominantly Black and my pastor rarely talks about politics and has only ever said to vote our conscience. He mostly emphasizes the Word of G-d and improving our walk with G-d, which is what ALL pastors (no matter their race) should be most concerned about.

Damn straight. I don't understand why Rush & Co. wanted to save Hillary's campaign. We should've finished Hillary off when we had the chance.

I don't know why people were so terrified of Obama. I've been saying all along that he's the proverbial fighter with a glass jaw. This proves it.

I believe the black vote will abandon Hillary and the dems. for quite some time because of the perceived injustice if Obama loses the nomination. Without the black vote Hillary can not win. Sharpton and others have been talking about burning the convention center and riots if Obama loses.

By the time this gets over Obama may have to resign, there is a story out there about corruption with earmarks and his wife’s place of employment.

I hope Rush gets The Hutch on with him sometime soon. I’d like to hear Hutch’s take on whether Wright’s kind of preaching is mild compared to other black preachers.

I’d also like to hear Jesse Lee Peterson’s take on it.

Probably the majority of white Americans have never attended services in a black church, so know black preachers mainly from TV. Donna Brazile's saying that Jeremiah Wright is a moderate is likely to convince a lot of them that his kind of ranting in sermons is very common.

It's becoming obvious that Barack Obama is not going to be a "racially healing" candidate (not least because of his own readiness to play the race card whenever it's convenient). The danger is that his candidacy could leave us worse off than before, with greater polarization and ill-will. If he's the Democrat nominee, and is defeated, how will black Americans react? It would only need a small minority to go berserk to create a major problem.

If may be less harmful if Hillary steals the nomination from him, so then the anger will be focused on the Clinton crime family rather than on "White America" (as Obama's pastor calls it).
