Paris, 16 March: A group of Tibetans stormed the Chinese Embassy in Paris this afternoon. One Tibetan protester climbed the Chinese Embassy and replaced the Chinese flag with the Tibetan National Flag.

Tibetans and Tibetan supporters in thousand, in an appeal by the Tibetan Community here had gathered few blocks away from the Chinese embassy. After a while a group of Tibetan broke away from the cordoned area and started running towards the Chinese Embassy. After a brief scuffle with the police in front of the Embassy, the protesters realized that one Tibetan had climbed the wall and was headed towards the Chinese flag. The crowd cheered when the Tibetan flag replaced the Chinese flag.

Earlier today French Senators expressed grave concern at the situation in Tibet and the brutal Chinese response to it.

"We express our grave concern at the situation in Tibet, especially after the announcement of the brutal reprisals by the Chinese authorities to the demonstrators", said Louis de Broissia, President of Tibet Information Group at the French Parliament.

In response to His Holiness the Dalai Lama's call for an international probe into the current situation in Tibet, the French parliamentarians have asked for a visa "as soon as next week" to visit Tibet, reported French news channel.

"We ask Hu Jintao to take full responsibility for the criminal military repression against peaceful civilian protesters who had simply expressed their political opinion," said Thupten Gyatso, President of Tibetan Community of France. He also appealed to the UN to form a committee for an independent and objective investigation into the recent events in Tibet.

The candle light vigil in Paris was organized to express solidarity with Tibetans inside Tibet and were joined by Vietnamese, Cambodians and Burmese activist. French MP Patrick Bloche and Jean Marc Brulé also attended the vigil and expressed their solidarity with Tibetan people.

In the Liévin, north France, the Deputy Mayor Jean-Pierre Kucheida raised the Tibetan national flag on the city hall to express the city's solidarity with the Tibetan people in Tibet.

The war of words in the recent situation in Tibet doesn't seem just limited to Chinese government making ridiculous accusations at His Holiness the Dalai Lama. As the Chinese authorities have become shriller, Tibet and Tibetan activists have reported very high frequency of rude comments to youtube videos by Tibetans and about Tibet since the past few days. One only has to search for one Tibet related video and see the comments. It seems that blocking youtube in China is not enough.

According to the BBC,
"A senior Chinese diplomat told a European China watcher recently that China felt bewildered by the criticism it is getting in advance of the Olympic games and was inexperienced at handling it.

China was clearly taken aback by the resignation of the film director Steven Spielberg as an adviser to the games."

This attitude is typical for Asians (as in Asians, not Americans of Asian descent). They have a tendency to selfishly look down on all other ethnicities, only becoming offended when their 'race' is being slighted, and so have difficulty understanding when foreigners get angry at an offense against another people. Why is the West in an uproar over Tibet? Why are a bunch of 'white' people so angry that China is supporting genocide in Sudan?

Hopefully exposure to Western influence will make Asians more empathetic to the plight and mis-/foul treatment of people who are not of their 'race,' and will make them less racist themselves.

Violence comes to London as protesters storm Chinese Embassy - March 18, 2008 - The violence that engulfed Tibet in the past week reached the streets of London yesterday as demonstrators stormed the Chinese Embassy, charging past police lines and hurling sticks, stones and bottles at a building that they said represents a terrorist state. After an hour and a half of peaceful vigil opposite the embassy more than 100 mainly ethnic Tibetan protesters broke rank. “They just bolted,” one onlooker said. “The police were grabbing them by their necks. One woman was knocked over in the road.” They made it as far as the locked front door of the embassy, where they hurled abuse and Tibetan flags at the windows above. “China, China China! Out! Out! Out!” they chanted. Pema Yoko, 25, the representative of Students on Behalf of Free Tibet, was born and raised in London and has never been to Tibet. “But I am 100 per cent Tibetan,” she said. Sonam Ngodup, 30, was born and raised in India and has also never been to Tibet. “Tibetans are not fighting. We are just shouting,” he said. “We get shot for just shouting.” Also at the demonstration was Ngawang Sangdhol, a nun and former political prisoner held and tortured in a Chinese detention centre for 12 years from the age of 13. Since being released in 2002, she has been unable to return to Tibet. “I miss my country,” she told The Times. “I miss my family. But we Tibetans will never give up.” The Chinese Embassy refused to comment on the demonstration.

Flag burned outside Chinese Consulate - March 17, 2008 - Dozens of people supporting a free Tibet yesterday waved flags and chanted and burned Chinese flags in front of the Chinese Consulate in Vancouver. The group received regular honks of support from passersby while demonstrating in solidarity with protesters in Tibet who for a week have been agitating against Chinese occupation.

In Vancouver, two dozen protesters camped overnight in front of the Granville Street Chinese Consulate after protesting Saturday. They remained yesterday afternoon and ended the overnight vigil by burning Chinese flags. Hayfa Abichahine of Students For a Free Tibet said approximately 200 Tibetans live in the Lower Mainland. "We're here to demand that the Chinese government stop legitimizing their illegal occupation on Tibet and, more specifically, that they pull out at the moment," she said. Abichahine said there are reports of 100 innocent protesters having been killed in recent days, although the Chinese government has said only 10 have died.
