I saw Dr Bussard's presentation about this, and it looked very impressive at face value, but as a non-physicist I could not tell how realistic it was. I was among several after the talk that were asking if we could invest a few thousand in it, but he didn't seem to want to raise funds that way.
The physics is sound. (I have a Master’s in EE with a heavy physics background - took more than most physics majors.) The problems are the politics (DOE took the project from DOD in a turf fight and then promptly canned it to keep their race track fusion research goldmine going) and some serious naivety about venture funding.
