Driving winds and rain ground flights in Houston and Dallas after a massive weather system rolls across Texas. The stranded traveler syndrome was repeated hundreds of times at Bush Intercontinental Airport where airlines reported cancellations and delays of more than six hours. American Airlines diverted some flights from Dallas to Houston to avoid thunderstorms. Travelers weren't pleased with the outcome.
"[We] landed in Houston. We taxied around burning fuel for about 15 minutes -- went to to the gate, the hangar refuel [with] still no information whether Dallas was gonna open or not," one woman said.
At Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport similar frustrations could be found. American cancelled more than 1,000 flights and travelers weren't amused with their waits. "Over an-hour-and-a-half trying to get through. So that means I have to leave here, go back home, come back out here tomorrow and hopefully get on a flight," another woman explained.
Operations at DFW, are slowly expected to return to normal with delays continuing throughout the day. Of course, that can always create a ripple effect for travelers departing Houston's two major airports.
A delay is better than having you aircraft slammed into the ground by a thunder-boomer, any day of the week.
ditto that.
Yeah? Well they would have been really amused, bouncing in the sky in that stuff.
Bush's fault.
Yeah, some of these people bitching would be doing the same thing if that plane had crashed. The weather was all kinds of nasty yesterday in the DFW area.
I can imagine. I was at the other end of this front and the wind was so strong, I could feel it pushing my dodge Ram as I went over bridges.
Must be all that global warming, ay?
Ah the green skies of a texas spring. I dont miss it a bit.
It was a business decision, not a weather decision. The airport itself was only closed for a couple of hours, and the other airlines managed to get some of their flights in and out. At the other airport, Southwest canceled about a third of its flights.
